Nice, I decided not to get another box of dimes at TD, but I did get a $20 * note when I dumped.

Probably going to get a box or two of dimes tomorrow though.

 

yesterday I bought a drink and some M&M's at the convenience store, paid with a $2, and received a silver dime (1964-D) back in change. not bad

 

Found in change today I wish it were a DDO

Five wheat cents in change from the bike store today: 35S, 41s, 45, 55d, 56d and my wife had a 41D nickel in her purse.

1955 Lincoln cent but not a DDO or DC

 

In change the other day I got a 1973-S quarter. Not silver, but my 1st proof-in-circulation find! When I got it (at Subway - not for me!!), something just seemed 'strange' about it ... it is circulated, but has a shine about it that would be unusual for any 1973 coin!

 

One time I actually found a buffalo nickel in my uncle's change . He let me keep it.

 

Just at the turn of 2012, I got this in change - 50 years old! Well, sort of anyway

This is more of a horror story than a find.

In 1962 at the tender age of 13 we had a huge blizzard in Conn. My mother sent me out to shovel her car out of the snow. While doing so, I found a little black purse which i immediately opened. In it, I found a 1916-d BU coin. This coin was so gorgeous if I had it today it would be somewhere in 66-68 rating possibly higher.

I was collecting coins back then as i had a paper route and had almost completed the mercury dimes the 1916 i think was the last one i needed. So i brought the coin to my local coin dealer who promptly offered me $250 for it. I figured if he offered that, it had to be worth double so i took it home and added it to my collection.

The next day my older brother was visiting and i went to show him my new dime. I was shocked to see that my other brother who still lived at home, had taken it and put it in the gum ball machine at our local store. I went to the store, begged the owner to open up the gum machine and let me have my dime back. He said once it's inside, it belongs to me.

So that folks, is how i lost out on my fortune (besides mother selling my baseball and comic collection)

 

I can totally empathize.


Families can stink.

 

Got a nice 1948-P Lincoln in change today - nice eye appeal XF with good contrasting patina.

Lmfao. Sounds like you've had your fair share of let downs. The other day, I was going through a silver collection that was passed on to me from the old lady across the street. We're in the central valley in CA, so it gets fairly dusty here. My brother and I used to sweep her drive way every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for a box of chocolate milk. One day, she passed her silver to us.

Anywho, I was going through it checking dates and removing them from the paper container because it seems the paper is staining the coins (40 year old Bank of America paper holders. Hold's like 2 bucks in dimes for, "savings deposits." She used it for silver). Come to find out, 5 or 6 of the most beautiful Roosevelts aren't even silver! They were various 6x's but not silver. I was sort of let down, but the immediate feeling that hit me after was that she even gave this to me, rather than her son or grandchildren. I was humbled, to say the least. I can finish off the last 5 or 6 on my own.

 

I stumbled across a 1964 silver quarter while getting change at my local grocery store. I could have swore i screamed like a girl, i thought i'd never get one in my life time!

 

Received this 1963 cent in change yesterday. Decent shape and I find its reverse coloring interesting.

I wonder how long it's been banging around...

A while back my son was starting to get interested in collecting silver coins from circulation. I told him that it would be very difficult as most silver coinage has been removed from circulation. The very next DAY...BAM he finds a 1960 Silver Quarter. I was like WOW and he was so excited. He found it in the change machine at a car wash we were visiting to was the car. I gave him $5 and told him to go get some change and he came to me with the quarter and we took it home and put it into a 2 X 2 and he displays it in his room. Goes to show you that when you least expect it...the coin GODS made both of us very HAPPY.
