Dug through about 5 rolls of US pennies that I've accumulated here in Canada (I always pull out the US change. Instant 15-20% profit!) I found a 1971S and two 1974S Lincolns, that I missed the first time I searched them. Gotta get my eyes checked! I wouldn't want to miss something more impotant!

sorted some coins i had in a bowl and found 2 interesting nickels - 1948 and 1955. pretty cool to find a 59 year old nickel. i think i'm going to go and buy some rolls from thebank and see what happens.

I got some change recently, and at first thought one coin was a Canadian quarter. It turned out to be a British 1992 ten pence. Not valuable, but interesting.

Nickels are, in my opinion, easier to find in older years in general circulation.

I think it's because other than the date, a 1938 nickel looks like a 1995 nickel.

With the wheat cents, the reverse is different so if the cent is reverse side up, someone will see the difference and pick it out.

With nickels, unless it looks rather work, you wouldn't know it's old unless you look at the date.

I routinely find nickels from the 40's and 50's in circulation. Oldest circ find is a 1940, but best finds were two 44-P war nickels i recieved in change on separate occasions.

I want to try roll searching nickels, but pennies offer more finds for your dollar I think.

I found this 1969 S in change at bank this morning. I know it isn't that rare, but it will replace the one in my Whitman folder.

my bank doesn't charge me to dump coins into the counting machine. i dump in coins, get a receipt, and then cash it out in new rolls.

    yesterday i picked up a 1940 nickel.

    Searched 20 rolls of Lincoln cents. Best find was a 1929. Then a bunch of 1956 and 1956D. A 1957 and beat up 1942 and a 1969S.

Oddly enough, in change today, I got a 1938-D Jefferson nickel. Only VG, but surprised, cause I'd never found one via circulation before.
