I have to wait until Thursday for my next box of halves so I called my Credit Union Saturday to see if they could spare a box each of Dimes and Quarters. They could sell me a box of dimes but not quarters. I haven't searched either before because people say they yield very few keepers. I'm glad I decided to give it a try because I found a 1954, a 1964-D and this 1906 Barber. I grade it F-12 because all the letters in Liberty are complete. I'm much more motivated to search dimes.
Today I dumped out my coin jug, and found some dimes, nickels, and quarters around 1965. One nickel was around 58! It seems there's billions of 1964 nickels in circulation, because I found about ten.
Thanks coinlover. It won't get spent again. Thanks De Orc. Thanks 65GT350. Paper wrappers so I have to open every one. luckily my Credit Union has a coin counter so I don't have to re-roll them.
My grandmother told me she got a SBA in circulation the other day and asked if I wanted it. Because she encourages my coin habits (she gives me all the stuff she's stored in the sock drawer - and some of it is quite desirable), and I don't want to discourage her, I told her to send it to me, figuring it would be a common 1979. It wasn't. It was a 1981D.
Not all finds in circulation are coins... recently got a 1993 $20 bill where I work, still pretty crisp, only slightly folded... bought it and decided to set it aside. Almost forgot what the old 20's look like, and it's getting harder to find them in decent condition! In 20 years or so will be able to impress more people with it lol.
KLJ,it sounds like all the 1981 Susan B. Anthony $1 coins are quite scarce.Out of all the Susan B. Anthony $1 coins I have seen over here,I have seen 2 of the 1980,2 of the 1999,& none of the 1981.I know that the 1979 is the common date. Aidan.
1981-P D, and S were made only for mint sets around 3 million of each. One of my favorites because they are still priced for all
Found today: 1 wheat cent 2 1993 $20 notes 2 $5 star note 1 $10 star notes. Wasn't a half bad day. Phoenix
i got a 1950D wheat cent from change saturady. its not worth too much but still a thrill to get one in change! it looks like someone laid it down on some wet paint though.
Wow... that's pretty rare to find that in circulation... so many people hoarded that one awat when they realized how rare ti would be. (Not that it's all that rare on an absolute basis, but it is the rarest of the Jefferson nickels.)
1981's aren't especially scarce, but they were only released in mint sets, so finding them in circulation is a pretty rare event; it would have required someone breaking open a mint set and spending it. I've found two proof Kennedys in circulation, so that kind of thing does happen on ocassion... but such finds are few and far between, The "key," if the SBA series can be said to have one, is the 1981P; 3 million were minted. The rarest variety would be the clear S variety of the 1981 S proof.
Er lol, misread that... thought you said it was a 1950D Jefferson nickel, which would have been quite a find... 1950D wheat cent is OK too though I guess, lol.
