Just now found it, while going through a bag of coins. 1999 Cayman Islands, 25 cents, BU. Same size as U.S. Quarter. :smile :smile :smile :smile
Wow, this thread is getting huge, almost on its 1000th post... Saw in the fountain in the Park Meadows Mall where I work now a brass coin bigger than a quarter, so fished it out... it was a 1999 100 Colones from Costa Rica! No idea how it got all the way out to Colorado, and who thre it in... mall maintenance gave me a dirty look when they saw me take it out, lol, but I threw a quarter in that was probably worth more than it anyway.
Just got the rarest circ wheatback in my collection today, in F to XF- 1927D AND in the same roll, a better 1930 than I had in the book before!! I believe it is also XF condition.
I know a guy who was working when someone brought in 100 sequential two dollar bills. He bought a few. I bought three off him for face value.
I used to search penny rolls on a day to day basis--I could find about 30 wheat pennies for every 100 rolls (5,000 pennies) that I searched.
That still sounds about right to me- I look through bags ($50 each face) and typically get around 25 or so.
I've been following this thread. Finally got to the bank today. Actually 3 banks and one of them twice to cash in coins. Bought 10 rolls of cents and 8 rolls of halves. Also bought the N. Dakota P&D mint folder with both unc for $3.50. Half dollars found from 8 rolls: 2- 1964 1- 1968D 3- 1967 And something I have never seen, a 1776-1976 Bicentennial that has no copper showing on the edge. No mintmark but looks like 40% silver..? Also a fine 1985P Out of 6 rolls of cents searched: One 1941 wheatie, 2- 1959D, 1-1959, 1-1963-D, 1-1964, 1-1965, 2-1967, 2-1969, 2-1969-D and one canadian 1982 Somewhere I read that the 1969 cents are rare. Is this true? Mintage is over a million and my 2006 Redbook shows it worth 70 cents; more than the other years of the sixties cent coins. Well back to throwing cordwood down the cellar!
Yesterday I was going through rolls of nickels and found gold plated 2005,p ocean in view. a 2006,d colorised. 2 1938p/d . a 1924 buffalo. 2 1939 p enough to finish a full roll. 17 1940,s 1 1943,p 21 1950,s and 25 1968,69,70,s and 10 canadian nickels 1 that had no date on the reverse,on the front there is a small1953/2002 . this was out of $200 in rolls.
I was about to cash in some change my dad had accumulated and so he asked if I wanted to look through it or not. I was apprehensive at first because there was about $80 worth in there, but I of course did search it. And am I so glad I did; peeking right at the top was a 1946 wheatie and a 1961-D SILVER Dime. I ended up finding 3 more wheaties. That was awesome.
I hadn't seen a South Dakota Statehood Quarter until yesterday. Found two in my pocket. Denver mint. BU, so must have come straight from the bank. I like the Mt. Rushmore theme, but am not too crazy about the bird flying overhead.
bama guy, Thanks so much for your immediate help. They say memory is the second thing to go!! I must have been checking the wrong forum. Now, for my finds. A 1919 S Lincoln Cent, Good, and a 1960 Jefferson Nickel, AU. The penny no doubt is the more valuable, however 1960 was when I graduated from high school, and 1960 is important to me for other reasons, and so that coin is special to me. Again, bama guy, thanks very much!!!!
A while back I (or at least thought I did) recieved a '58 D in change and put it aside as I do every nickel pre-1960. Upon closer look, it turned out to be a '38-D! Needless to say i was happy.
My mom said she just received a 1888 dime as change. Asked her to send a photo but her digital isn't working currently - sry. She said it is in really rough shape but it is still neat to receive as change!
