Bought 5 rolls +4 extra, halves, from my bank this morning. Found two Silvers 67d and 68. Also found a doubled date centenial. BTW where do you find boxes of halves and how many are in a box?
Found a 19xx indian head penny. Then I lost it. I think it got mixed in with some normal lincolns and spent.. Makes me sick cause it was in really good condition. Also the following: (how this one got in US circulation is anyone's guess)
Customer came into the drug store yesterday and paid with (3) VF-XF 1957A Silver Certificates. Wife called and wanted to know if I wanted them!! Duh.
New member, but doing this for quite some time now. Yesterday, received a very unusual bag, a least for me. Supposed to be all halves (2,000). Contained the following: Silver Kennedys (40% & 90%): 39 Other halves: not sure yet Franklins: 115 Walkers: 21 Quarters: 187 Dimes: 24 Nickels: 29 Pennies: 111 Foreign coins: 4 Carwash token: 1 14 K gold plated medal: 1 All appear to be in decent circulated condition. No collection pieces. The "other halves" are all over the place on dates with some being rather recent. All the non-halves appear worth face only. Seems obvious the the fed bank, armored car/coin service, and local bank had not checked this bag. I'm not sure of the face value in there when I received it. May have to count it to settle up with the bank when I return it. In any regard, it's was quite an experience. Wonder if anyone has had a similar one. WillieSutton (The Ghost of) PS: Before anyone "hates me", please note that the previous bag and it looks like two additional unsearched bags have every coin "kissed" on the cheek by the black Sharpie dot (probably of Cave_Troll! HA!). Oh Well. That speeds up the process.
Please don't hate me either, since I've only done that to 2 boxes (2000 coins total) ever. Someone else must be doing it too Actually, I've had decent luck recently (although nothing like yours!) and I haven't had to mark any halves for a while now.
OK, OK, The "hate" comment was a joke, guys. I don't hit the halves as hard as you do, but I am pretty regular with it. I've just been going through a slow period- 3 here, 4 there, etc. I am actually glad that those coins were pulled out of potential circulation by you and are now in the hands of collectors. My turn will come. Persistence pays off eventually.
2005 D Roosevelt Dime. Big Deal, right? Here's the thing. A great strike and absolutely perfect. Even through magnification, there are no marks. Isn't every circulated coin supposed to have at least some bag marks? This one doesn't. Also out of pocket change, a 1980 D Quarter. BU Where has it been hiding for 25 years?
Got a $20* and a $1* this weekend. Not coins, but having not seen a star note in months, getting 2 in 2 days is fun
BigsWick, >>OK, OK, The "hate" comment was a joke, guys.<< Yup! All in jest! I have felt the same way. You have put up some very good find ratios. The bag I described was a lucky find with some interesting side features. It's the anticipation of the hunt, as well as the actual find! Willie (The ghost of)
Yeah, like you said, the anticipation of the hunt is what keeps me going, and I have been fortunate enough put up some solid numbers. It seems to come around every couple of months. I think I'm due. Still, that bag you got was awesome! I like finding Franklins more than anything. I've only found 9 (including a nice 1949-S) in all of the thousands of rolls I've searched. Back tomorrow for another 50 rolls.....
Found 1929 Lincoln Always read this thread just wishing. Well, today from change in work cafeteria I received 2 pennys and was placing them in the penny cup then noticed one was a wheat so put that one in my pocket. It is a well worn 1929 but was exciting to find.
I picked up 75 rolls of halves today. I went through about 35 rolls without finding anything noteworthy- until I opened roll number 36. It had twenty 1974-Ds that looked like they left the mint yesterday- Absolutely stunning coins. Wow!
Alright, I was at work (McDonalds) and a coworker showed me a 1935 $1 silver certificate. I bought it off him...for a dollar.
Went done to another bank, they had 2 rolls of halves. Got home and opened them and found (2) 1969's halves. S<M
Look what this guy found! http://forums.ebay.com/db1/thread.jspa?threadID=1000035517&tstart=0&mod=1123261227966 Post # 250!
Holy carpe diem, I can't believe there are 540 posts in here already! I had just joined when this thread was started! Yowza! Anyway, I haven't found too much to shake a stick at lately, but I did get a bunch of 1950's wheaties and a 1942-D nickel in VG8. I also got a BU 1952-S Franklin half dollar from a friend who had been saving odd coins for a while and didn't want that one any longer. It was still in a nice holder, too. ~AJ
