The mirror reflectivity of the fields is what usually gives it away. Even after a little circulation the fields are still so shiny that it is obvious when you've found one.
In some cases, I believe you can tell by the mint, but I'm too tired tonight to look it up in my Red Book.
Bacchus is correct. San Francisco hasn't minted any coins for circulation in decades. If you find a 1993S quarter in circulation (which I did once), it is a proof coin. But that's not what I found today. Today at the softball playoffs, I ordered a hot dog, pretzel, and soda. My change included a 1960 Canadian quarter. Which looks silver, and should be, if my memory serves.
Howdy, y'all.... I just brought a box of pennies home from the bank in North Scottsdale.... I'll post later and let you know what I get! ~AJ
I thought so. Thanks. I know Canada stopped minting silver coins about the same time we did, but I also know it wasn't exactly at the same time. When did they make the switch over?
I few minutes ago I emptied out the change box for the Coke Fund and found a dollar bill stamped "Free PUERTO RICO Now!" and a "Where's George" dollar bill. Gonno go check on the Where's George.
where's george is fun! some bills are maked with wheresgeorge.com, some people dont write on the bills, but people enter the serial number of hte bills in the database and you can see who else has owned that bill. its kinda neat, especially when someone finds your bill in say...Japan
yup, they have Army bases there ya know my boyfriend brought me home 2 1979 SBA's and a few Sac's today. the post office machines do spit out dollar coins still- sac's and SBA's.
Wheresgeorge.com is a lot of fun. It's also educational. There's a ton of stuff you can learn from that database. I just recently received feedback from a person who ended up with one of my bills in Kauai, Hawaii! I got my start with Wheresgeorge thanks to a member of this forum who sent me a one dollar bill stamped with Wheresgeorge. I recommend it to all of you. Give it a try!
Found a 1989-D Cent that appears to be missing the copper. I'll post more in the error forum later when I get some pix taken and look at it under the scope.
that dollar I got yesterday was logged in at Wheresgeorge.com only once before--December 2004 in Lafayette, LA, received in change at a Target. I spent it at the post office.
Here's a doozy for you guys - I got a few rolls of pennies from the bank the other day. In 5 rolls, I got a total of 1 wheat penny, 1 1970-S, and FOURTEEN dimes. Worked for me! ~AJ
I can't remember if I've posted on this thread before. O well. Anyway. Best find I've got is noticing that the cashier had a full roll of wheaties and a half roll left. So i gave her $1.50 in exchange for the 147 wheaties left ( a loss of 3 cents) But finding 4 1909's (plain, no V.D.B. )and 2 1910's and nothing older than 1940 made me a happy boy indeed.
I don't know if this is common or not but I went to a bank and got $75 in pennies. Now so far in the first box I found a few rolls with extra coins. They were rolled by Brinks, I believe they do theirs by machine as these are rolled in plastic.
