1974 Jefferson Nickel in EF/AU Not a significant date, but in great condition for a thirty-plus year old coin, from circulation. It was the only good coin I found while searching ten bank rolls yesterday--my guess is someone already went through them :-(
I went through a WHOLE $100 box of nickels yesterday, and I only found 2 nickels that were earlier than 1960... I KNOW someone must have gone through it! Normally I find up to 30 or 40! But I did find a 1942 Mexican 5 centavos coin with a nice die crack running through it! ~AJ
Found a 2002 Italian 2 eurocents piece in the Coinstar at the grocery store. Considering the grocery store I use is in a part of town lower on the economic/social scale (and the prices show it), it surprised me some that a European coin would pop up. People living there don't jet over to Europe.
But some may come from there The Coinstar locations in my town are in the lower-income areas, and I find some decent coins every now and then. Mostly, though, I find Sacs in the reject holder :-D
Hey, have you ever heard anyone refer to "The Dirty Kroger"? Unrelated note--so to speak--today, for the first time, I found a star note. I'd never really looked for them before, but I mentioned to a lady I work with that some people collect paper money, and on a whim I pulled out my wallet, and there it was ($1.00, 2003 series, circulated but still crisp.)
A star note, I've recently learned, is a bill with a star in place of the last letter of the serial number. When bills are badly damaged, destroyed, or misprinted during the printing process, the serial number will be recycled with a star on it to record the fact that it is a reprinting. From what I can tell, they are not that uncommon--1 in 100 dollar bills have them is the figure I've seen cited. Since the one I found does not have an unusual serial number otherwise, nor is it free of creases and wrinkles, it probably carries very little (if any) premium to collectors.
Last night I was checking some rolls of nickels. One roll had nothing newer than 1968. Only one was worth keeping.
I'm going to get more nickels from the bank today - let's hope I find something older than 1970! I didn't even find anything good at work (I work at a grocery store as a cashier) yesterday... it was sort of depressing. All we had was BU 2005 pennies and dimes, and a couple 1964 nickels. I found 1 Wisconsin state quarter, but alas, no extra leaves! Here's hoping I get something good today! ~AJ
Well, just got finished going through a box of Quarters and here are my finds: About 14 California "Moon" Errors and 12 1776-1976 quarters! I love them!! Not one silver! I still had FUN though! SM
A well-circulated 1946 Roosevelt from the soda (or pop, for those of you from the Midwest) machine. I was surprised because I thought the weight difference was too big for a machine to accept silver. Not that I'm complaining, mind you. It has been a while since I've found silver.
Went to the store the other day and low and behold, I got a 1952 Roosevelt dime from the Denver mint.
