last week I found a 1943d steel wheat penny in my pocket.... Ive found a number of 1916's, and 1913's in pocket change, but its the first steely!
Okay - here's my newest find: I waited a bit until I could take it to a dealer and get it confirmed: I found 2 1970-S Small dates in 1 bank box worth of pennies! Both are in VF-XF condition.... So I'm happy as a clam. Plus, I found a couple more Canadian cents. I'm only 14 small cents and 14 large cents (Canadian) away from completing a 1900-2000 set of Canadian cents! Woohoo! ~AJ
FINALLY ... An Arkansas quarter with a D mint mark. It was the oldest state quarter missing from my pocket change collection. I store them in Harris folders. What’s next, 2004 Keelboat or 2005 Bison nickels in change ? It could happen.
ajm22: I knew someone who went to NAU. He said he had a roommate who was not from the southwest, and they were watching a college football game between an Arizona college (maybe NAU) and another southwest team, either from Arizona or New Mexico. The other team’s nickname was the Javelinas. The roommate didn’t know what a javelina was, and expected to see an oil can (Havoline) with legs when it was time for the other team’s mascot to run on the field. http://www.pattyhorn.com/moment/02.01.02.html
Okay guys, I did all right today at work - somebody paid for their groceries with a 1950 Series A $20 bill, and I found 2 1941 Jeffersons and (of course) about a billion majillion bazillion state quarters! I bought the bill, the nickels, and a Minnesota-D SQ off my drawer. Guess what, I found the 1960-D Small Date Lincoln cent yesterday too, which puts me ONE CENT away from a full collection of Lincoln Memorial cents, all of which are XF-AU from circulation! I'm only missing the 1960-P Small Date (The hard one....)! I think I may have to see if my dealer friend has one for a good price, because I've searched in roughly $1500 worth of pennies from the bank with my friends and we haven't found one yet (even though we found 2 '70-S small dates the other day!). The other thing I'm nearing completion in is my 1900-2005 Canadian cent collection. I only need 14 more small cents (all but 3 from before 1937), and 14 large cents. I'm very excited to be nearing completion of this daunting task, since all but the large cents that I have came completely from circulation (even my 1920 Canada cent and my 1954 no-strap in proof-like condition which my dealer tried to buy off me for $150!) Next up: To finish my Jefferson nickels collection and begin really searching for more halves to fill holes with! ~AJ
AJ: Sounds like you and I collect much of the same things. I did find the 1960 Lincoln small date. Need two more coins to complete the Canadian small cents. Recently finished up my Jeffersons, JFK's, and Franklin Halfs. Would like to finish a set of Canadian silver dollars...I mean when they really were silver dollars. What nice coins! May also start Walking Liberty Half Dollar set. Anyway, good luck and I hope you finish some of your sets soon.
Thanks Gary - and today I have! I have found the last Lincoln Memorial cent in my collection - the 1960-P Small date! I now have a Lincoln Memorial cent collection in XF-BU grades (80%BU, 17-18%AU, 2-4%XF)!!!!! YAHOO! That's the first completed set I've got! Good luck finding them! I have a bunch of extras, so PM me sometime with what you are still lookin for and perhaps I can help! Next up: finish the Jefferson Nickel set! I've still gotta find that 2005-P Buffalo! (and a few more!) ~AJ
I posted this several days ago, but didn't get any response. Maybe nobody knows anything about it. Anyway, let me try again. I realize that if I had a World Coin book, I could figure it out for myself. But, I don't, so would appreciate any help. ----------------------------------------------- Had something really interesting turn up in pocket change, and have some idea what is is, but not sure. Can anybody help? Small coin. Made of nickel? Hole in middle. Cross on one side, Bird on a branch on the other. "1 Krone" on Bird side, with 1998 date. Some wear, but not much. Krone and Kroner, I think is Norweigian. Anybody know. Is it a coin from Norway? What's a Krone equivilent to in our money. Thanks for any help.
Speedy: Believe it or not, we have a library. And, four or five stop lights! Good suggestion. I'll visit the library and see what I can find out.
Somehow I must have missed that post you made a few days ago Gary But anyway - when you get to the library, try looking under Denmark

Okay Doug, I found the coin. Norway. 100 Ore = 1 Krone, also called a Skilling (not shilling). Would still like to know what a Krone is equivilent to in U.S. money. Any Vikings out there who can help me out?
