Yes the reject slot is nice. I found a real nice penny from 1930 in one of them a month ago! I was blown away as I rarely find penny's that old at all from rolls from the bank. I'd love to use them but with their fee's I dont.
I know it wouldn't make any sense but the way the BEP has been changing over the last 10 ~ 15 years it wouldn't surprise me. I tried finding Excelsior's post where he said they'd be 2004A's but I cant locate it at the moment. I did find this one though. (I could be remembering wrong, it wouldn't be the first time I had a brain fart) http://www.wheresgeorge.com/pf_main7/messages/1107452134_18084.html Either way....03A or 04A the 2003 F stars looks like it'll be a key date/series/type for collectors
I see. I saw this on there "allegedly official information has claimed both 2003A/2004A and 2005." So I dunno what is going on. The new currency they print is the ugliest crap ever to be printed by the BEP anyways(except $1,$2 notes).
busco69, that worked out pretty good. I went to the bank at Northland and Belding, a couple miles north and west of Canonsberg Ski, and the bank sold me two rolls of halves. My pocket change collection only had two halves, a 71 and a 72, because my pocket change collection only comes from pocket change and bank rolls. I don't buy coins at a premium for it. The forty coins resulted in 23 new coins for my collection. The coins of note were two 67s (40% silver). The other coins I'm going to send to one of my sisters and one of my stepsons, both of whom have collections. Thanks again for your reply.
1953S Franklin Half, about fine. Would love to say it came from circulation, but that's not exactly the case. In fact it was hiding in a desk drawer. Don't know how far back I stuck it there. Happy to find it though, because Franklin half dollars are what I'm currently working on, and even though this coin isn't a beauty, it will fit right into my collection.
Hello, I have been lurking for a week or two now, but todays find gives me some reason to post. I recieved ~30$ in rolls from the bank today and I have only looked at a roll of nickles and a roll of pennies. In the penny roll there was 1937 wheaty and in the nickle roll, there was my first buffalo nickel and a 1939 P in VG-F! (no double Monticello :| ) I was surprised to say the least. I have not looked at the roll of halves yet. When I asked for it the lady said "How did you know I have these. They have been here for a long time." I'm saving that one for after work! Happy Hunting...
In the past few days I got a 1957 Wheatie, 3 California Quarters, 2 Keel boat nickels and a BU 1964 penny. I'm happy!
Yes it does happen. I found a bu 1956 cent in my dad's penny jar a year ago and several months ago I was at a Game Crazy and there was a small group of pennies at the register and it was dark but I noticed the shine of an older style penny and I got it and it turned out to be an uncirculated 1962D cent. Quite disturbing indeed.
Hmm...I've come across many from 2004 but not a one from 2005 yet. I know the relief is probly junk but I still can't wait to see one in person.
Yeah, I know BU, it was a real shock. I was sorting for older copper pennies and I almost skipped over it because I thought it had to be new it was so nice! So far I have a total of 15 of the 2004 nickels from circulation, hoping to make a roll! Also, I have been getting interesting coins from my local coin shop in change (50's nickels, 60's pennies, etc.). Has anyone else gotten good change from coin stores?
There's typically interesting stuff with change from coin stores. They had a bunch of halves they were giving out as change and just the other day when I was at the register I noticed a wheat penny and I pointed it out and he gave it to me along with a '59 cent as change. Wheat is from 1941 btw.
I've seen other posters here comment about not seeing any 2004 nickels in change. I see them regularly, and have been since last autumn, I guess, or maybe earlier. How does that work? I guess newly minted coins tend to go to certain areas, cities, and slowly spread outward. People pocket or horde or collect them along the way, so that only the less "collected" stuff makes it farther from the distribution centers. This seems simple--is it an accurate notion? Comments? Also, a lady I work with gave me about ten dollars in cents to go through. I found three common-date wheat pennies and four Canadian pennies, and another Lincoln cent I wanted to ask about here. I have it on my dresser at home and can't remember the date--I think it's 1983. The surface is fairly brilliant, but it's kind of...lumpy. It looks sort of like it has a very evenly dispersed case of chickenpox, on both sides. I suspect it has to do with the problems they had with the switch to clad cents, but I've been unable to find another picture of the phenomenon online. It's the most pronounced case of it I've seen, and I want to compare it to a photo. Does anyone know where I can find a picture? I might just have to try to take a picture of my coin and post it, but I haven't tried that yet and I don't know how that will turn out.
A coin store is the only place I've received half dollars in change; at least, in the last ten years or so.
