I picked up a great lot on Ebay this week. A large lot of Morgans, and the seller was apparently a storage locker hunter from the items up for sale. The seller had fuzzy pictures and didn't even bother to list the mint marks. I saw it as an opportunity.

Among the lot were some choice coins. An 1878-CC in XF, an 1891-CC in VG, a 1904-O in what I am guestimating could be an MS65 and possibly an MS66 - it's in the "off to grading" pile, and 2 1878-P "8 tail feather" varieties that I need to attribute.

But the interesting one was just a common 1878 7TF in circulated condition, however it has a die break or something (would love to know what technical term y'all give it!).

The bottom of the "D" is chopped off, making it look like a lower case "n"

    It's my new Silver Nollar!

It's probably struck through grease. Cool find!

Darnedest thing I've ever seen. Nice find! The disappearance of the letter is so abrupt!

Wahoo! Thank you! I have been busy working on the 8tf coins. Both are VF and trying to find details is very hard!

The break in the star at 4 o'clock was a great second verification.

    Cheers Dave!

Are you using the attribution guide going by the feathers between the legs and wings?

Nah, right now I'm just looking at pictures and playing with my loupe.

Looking for the easy tells, work has been kicking my butt and I haven't had time to disconnect and do actual research.

That makes more sense. Usually you'd expect grease to fill the entire letter. I had no idea there was a broken D VAM. :)

Faint, but through the B - barely recognizable due to wear.

VAM 195 carries a pretty good premium.
