At work lately we've been working with some of the old school newspapers. Today I ran into a fun little ad giving away a free silver dollar. The newspaper was from 1967, right after the change over.

The paper doesn't say but I'm guessing it was a Morgan.

He didn't lead an "assault"... it was an "assualt"... ;-)

Joe Wilcox led a 12-man climb of Alaska's Mount McKinley in July of 1967.

Seven of the climbers died on the climb.

This is the worst loss of life on an American mountaineering expedition.

There are several books written about this tragedy.

    :)

I still have the 2x2 flips that a bunch of my grandfather's Morgans came in. Dated to early 1970s with the original prices of $8.75...$6.00...$12.00...

The good old days, their actually still around. I picked this up this summer, along with about 50 other comics, all dated in the 40's for $10.00 at an estate sale. This is from 1946, Vol. 1, #1, and grades a nice Fine.. Guide is around $45.00. img217.jpg

In 1967 you could still get Morgan dollars at the bank for face value. It was getting tougher to do, but still possible.
