Oh, $5.50 is totally fine. Not like you’ll get your money back but that’s okay

I'm doing just fine with them. My "other" hobby (can I say it here) is firearms. 1911 pistols primarily.

I make pistol grips with inset coins. As the pistol style was introduced and adopted by our military in 1911, these 1911 dated "medallions" (and a few real US coins as well) have made it into some of my creations.

I share these, only to explain why I have so many of them.

Late to the party. Both are really bad counterfeits, even without copy stamped on them. Very mushy details, etc.

Nice grips. Do you have a web site? I have several 1911's.

If you had just stated that in you post, you would have saved some time. Just saying.

None of our gold coins are under staples period bad idea. Good luck with authenticating them.

I used to do a little selling on Etsy, but have fallen off there for a while. Life changes have realigned priorities, but I do still craft the grips from time to time. I also make custom stands for 1911's. PM me and I can send you a photo or three.

I was being intentionally coy. I wanted to solict unbiased responses, not assuming or implying they were real coins.

    I guess I failed . . . . . . . pout.gif

The color and the stain on the Chiefs chin and the second left star (7 o’clock) on the 1911 concerns me. Can the dot in the field at 11 o’clock be compared to a known ligit coin?

A**! At least I was able to pick out the 1911 as questionable.

Well, speaking of the 1911 Quarter Eagle, I have one in a Type Set.
My question would be, what grade would typically be used in a Type Set?

    Thanks.

I would think, whatever you can afford, but I'm sure the REAL EXPERTS will tell you otherwise . . . . .

Me, I cain't afford a type set that includes gold.

Oh, I mean that I have the complete Type Set (from My Father's Collection) and am wondering what grade coins are generally put in a Type Set.

I have a 20th Century Type set and I try to go XF or better. I have a couple of proofs in there because that was the only grade represented by that "type."

The adhesive that I use is very sticky and dries semi-pliable and clear / translucent. It does not get "rock hard" or crystalline. It's not affected by shock. So far, I've never had one come loose.

It's like an industrial version of Goop for shoes. Dries clear and semi-flexible.

No, those two pieces don't look "scary good" to experienced collectors and dealers. I said "counterfeit" as soon as I saw them. The dates were biggest give away.

Here are examples of the real coins.
