Who here is on the Instagram coin community? Be sure to give me a follow @jaxcoins If you aren't involved in this, i highly suggest you join!
I thought instagram was just another social media outlet like twitter for those who could not bear to be physically disconnected from their phones. I had no idea that coin collectors, who are generally more intelligent, would use it.
Maybe I am wrong, but I always thought that twitter and instagram were abbreviations: TWITs Talking Excessively at Random INSTant GRAtification Mechanism.
Come on, if you don't want to do so, just don't do it, but you don't have to be snarky. Exposure to the depths of information here ,people may change their mind. Ridicule does little to do so, and exposes depth as minimum. Yet many here who would disdain those mention above almost beg for "likes" which is a trademark of those very site. Be nice to newcomers and give a chance. At least the member isn't asking you join a youtube channel on bullion collecting.
Sorry I don’t like the way a new person is trying to get us to try something new and get us away from CT. Not a good lead in as a new member. Kinda troll like. Sorry just my opinion, Reed
LOL. I bought my first personal computer in 1979. I was one of the first people in my neighborhood to get broadband, almost 20 years ago. I got my first digital camera around the same time. I'm driving a hybrid car with assisted braking, collision avoidance, parking assist, and even lane-holding. It's to tide me over this awkward stage before fully autonomous cars are legal and practical. I don't have a presence on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter. It's not because I'm "unwilling to modernize"; it's because I already don't have enough attention to devote to everything in my life, and I'm resisting apps whose clearly stated business goal is to claim and monetize ever more of my attention. No, I'm not unwilling to modernize. But today's social media aren't "modern"; they're at the "steam engines belching coal dust into the sky" stage of attention management. They're intent on consuming everything, because the costs of attention mismanagement don't fall back on them. In a couple of decades, when "attention conservationism" is a thing, you might be seeing my name more in public.
One doesn't have to follow or like anything on Instagram, nor should one feel dirty or unfaithful if they spend time there. I've bought more coins through Instagram in the past year than I have in 8+ years here. I spend much more time here posting and browsing, but there are coins there that don't appear on boards. Here are a few of my Instagram buys from 2017. BTW, there are quite a few members from here, PCGS and NGC that I see on Instagram.
Why? I've never met a smart person who lives on either. Are you implying coin collectors are not more intelligent than average?
No, it has nothing to do with that. You are judging an entire group of people because of them using an app to post pictures of their coins. There is just zero reason to make a post like yours and it comes across as arrogant. Just like judging someone for what they choose to collect. Coin collectors love to share their coins with other collectors. How can a venue to do exactly that invoke such a negative response from someone in the hobby?
