Peanuts compared to how much having it slabbed would increase its resale value! When it gets back, they might as well send it off and get a CAC sticker on it too!
Good point. Plus, it's not like they "spent" the money. They just converted it to gold. I guess that frivolous wasn't the right word. But the fact that they would be able to afford the gold speaks wonders about their business model. Namely selling silver at 3-10X spot.
This is a collector with too many coins, built the foundation of his house out of slabs. Actually I believe it sold for a little BELOW melt.
Not after shipping fees and sales tax. Hello USPS? I need to have a 1 tonne gold coin shipped from Perth to New York over night. What? Yes, one tonne, and gold. OK, I'll wait. Is it more than $10,000 worth of cash? ummm, let me look that up. It is legal tender of $100 ASD, so no, I don't think so.
Sure, the TPGs could slab that. They already make the big slabs for the 5 oz. bullion coins, why not a giant slab for this one. Of course, it will probably need wheels....and a motor
just set it up in a mall after its slabbed. Mall cop: You want me to guard THAT!?! Mint director: No, I want you to dare people to try to steal it. Mall cop: Does that even make sense to you? Mint director: Its not like we paid the extra 5k to get an engine to go with the wheels on the slab...
