AFAIK, it's only available from Wizard Coin Supply and it's usually out of stock. Add yourself to the waiting list and you will eventually get an e-mail from them. When you get notified, buy it quickly.
Cleaned 'professionally' versus cleaned by any other method. Yeah, I got it. Again, cleaned is cleaned. It oughta be one standard but like everything else today, it depends on how well one can cheat the system and avoid detection. I know. Same old, same old.
Not really. Certain cleaning is good as long as it doesn't affect the surface of the coin. Certain chemicals react with the coin itself. If done properly I have no issues with it. Some of the CT members here have metallurgical and chemical backgrounds so we should listen to their advice. My advice isn't worth the time to hear or read it
Nor mine. I've heard it all and read it all regarding this topic. Never do it but do it well if you do seems to be the mantra.
Cleaning and conserving are two very different things. It's okay to remove grime from a Renoir. It's not okay to touch up the paint. Same thing on coins.
I could take a Ferrari on a ride up a muddy drive, and then have Jeeves clean it. He could use a gentle cleaner and rinse the car off, or he could take a brillo and scrub that dirt clean off. I think we would all agree that one is acceptable, and one is not. Same thing on coins.
Not at all. Proper conserving is a good thing. Knowing if a coin can be helped is the hard part to learn.
Tell ya what. Go out and take a brillo pad to your car. Tell me how it looks, and if you like the look. If you like it, then by all means brillo your entire car. Have fun. Go to town! Now, try to resell your car. Tell me how that goes, edited.
Sorry, hard to tell in these sorts of threads sometimes. Jokes are sometimes hard to understand in a forum when emotions run high. Emojis help
One thing I've tried to be as I've gotten older is tone deaf. I have to be honest that it doesn't always work out that way. I think I end up stressing out over nothing. That's one thing I like about most of you regulars on CT. I respect your opinions and realize we are all human.
It's the same process called two different things. One is acceptable and one is not. Still a 'cleaning' does take place in both descriptions. Whatever one wants to call it though. Matters not.
No painting involved in coin cleaning or conservation. I understand the purpose of differentiating the two but it's still semantics. Two different words describing generally the same thing. I'm done though. Not a fight I have any interest in winning. Call it whatever makes you comfortable.
