The piece stiched to the back was clearly written on both sides before it was stiched together and the front pirce of paper has some wierd crickles it is that show something underneath.
the reverse says it was registered yet there is no registration number on the front and it appears to be 2 different note halves
Cindy - I think the ink had faded completly on the reg. area. You can almost make out the signatures on the bottom. As for the reverse, I said the same thing in my first post. It's almost like it was resigned later, part of a different note, or forged for some reason. It's really odd having the on the backing.
didnt mean front and reverse are two different...but two different pieces on the front the reverse appears to be a letter..possible 'invisible ink' intelligence? the sewing appears to be in the shape of a State...connecticut or washington?
Strange as it might seem the bits actualy do match LOL I have just been examining it under a microscope
DeOrc has informed me of a winner....please standby for that announcement.. Way to go guy's and Gals! Great work!! RickieB
One of the things I was looking for was the number of the Note DeOrc has...it looks as though there is no number! After using a microscope DeOrc has determined it was there at one time. He has also informed me of a possible draw between two responders!! Now that can be trick but we think we have a resolve! DeOrc and I have discussed this and he will propose it in a post soon. Thanks for the Great work guy's... RickieB
Well I have talked with DeOrc and he is not feeling too great..it could be the Flu... Get well DeOrc!! He has asked me to announce the winners! As mentioned we have two people hamman88 and USS656 as the winners. Both of you provided great information to DeOrc and here is what he proposes we do.... DeOrc and I agree that hamman88 provided a wee bit more info, but USS656 also had the correct info as well. We discussed splitting the prize since there are 4 notes and 1 bonus note! The bonus note going to hamman88. SO....why dont you guy's PM me and let me know your thoughts on our idea?? Congrats!!! RickieB
darn its just my luck i figured the no number thing right now but the horse has already bolted. well i need to buck up for the next contest hope you feel better De ORC
I spent so much time trying to read the signatures (looks like more than one?) That I didn't even pay attention to the number because I figured they had faded completely. When Twiggs mentioned it, it was like no, cannot be. Then I was afraid it was the stitching comment when I saw that there was a winner. I feel bad for RickieB, I had a contest go hey wire so I understand how that complicates things. I had pretty much given up as I couldn't find anything else to identify. I was also thinking that maybe there was more than one note on the front but everything seemed to match in areas that made that unlikely. Again - profs to Rickie for trying to help DeOrc learn more about his note. It was a neat research project and I learned a lot. Thanks!!!
Prizes Hi Everyone...Thank you all for helping DeOrc!! The prizes have been mailed as of Sat morning. Congrats!!! RickieB
Just like to add my own thank yous to everyone who helped supply info on the note and to Rickie for coming up with this crazy idea in the 1st place :bow:
Howdy DeOrc... Thank you for the kind words...I am happy that we solved the mystery. Hope you are feeling better!! Thanks again to all who posted and helped!! RickieB
Ths is not an"error", nor are the S's replaced with f's. It looks like an f at first glance but it is a different letter. Notice the lack of a crossbar on the "f". This letter had a specific name and there were specific rules as to when it would be used in a printed document to replace an s. An explanation may be found here http://www.colonialprinter.org
