Yeah, that's the Stony Brook Univ paper. The research was corporate funded to support a change in the ASTM procedure for testing copper used in specific environments (marine I think)

The results appear legit. The takeaway from that paper is that acetic acid can form if; the copper is soaked in acetone for a long period of time, the acetone is allowed to evaporate, and it is done in a high humidity environment in the presence of UV light. Don't know about you, but I don't use acetone like that

If you don't like acetone, there is always xylene. Never seen any instances of damage with Xylene.

Don't let it evaporate. Soak then rinse with distilled water. Always the last step.

So I take it that you now concede that it is just glue?

  8. for those bad at simple math, here's a equation for you while we wait,, 1 us coin plus lincoln penny = 3.11 grams. so if you had a chance to add some ädhesive then multiply the square root of Lincolns ear by 1979, then subtract original assumption from your pie Then just add the .11 and you end up with a 3.11 gram penny :)

The only one tripping is you. Now you're just making insults at other members as if you know more about numismatics than everyone else. Pay the money and send it in already so you can tell them they're wrong also when it comes back as a foreign substance!

Nice amount of glue on that coin.

But, as others have mentioned, show that
we're wrong, and submit it to any of the three
    top Authentication Services.
