Inflation causing price creep in coin prices?

I became involved in ancients a few years before the price spike. I'd say that, in the area in which I shop ($100-1000 slabbed Romans) the prices increased by 50-100% starting in 2020. This sucks from a cost perspective, however, the supply of coins available at auctions has probably increased by even more than that (300-500%?) during this time.

Of course, I'd generally like to see the prices fall back to where they were before because my budget would go that much further. However, if prices drop, then I'm expecting that the number of coins available for sale would also dry up. Once sellers get a taste of the bonanza, they are very resistant to subsequently settling for less :(

It certainly seems that way -- and yet: I spent my teenage years in the 1970s and my college years (most of them) in the 1980s. We saw historically high inflation during that period, but then went back to extremely low inflation for most of the two decades that followed.

There are always multiple factors, and usually, eventually, they're enough to overcome people's habits.

Remember the rags we used to buy because they had a tv guide and were sometimes useful for potty training puppies? Well the rag I used to buy once suggested front running inflation by using spare bedrooms to stock up non-perishables like: yes! toilet paper. And light bulbs. But especially light bulbs because those were the hottest selling items on the soviet black market.

The writer even claimed there were people who, for a fee, could direct you to a black market dealer who'd hook you up with a light bulb. I guessing he never heard of con men, or the KGB.
