Good luck with them. Some of them are exceedingly common but if it looks like a collection you may have done extremely well. Some of the scarcities were available in small numbers at one time and can appear in collections.
I have noticed the complete lack of regard to world coins from my LCS. In the last 2 weeks I pulled 7 silver coins from their junk foreign bin where everything is 5/$1. I also unwittingly cherry picked a few nicer world coins that caught my eye. The $10 in British and Canadian coins I bought would easily cost me over a $100 on ebay. If your buying that way probably a good way to turn a profit but thats a very limited market and I have now picked over there junk bin.
1200!! That sounds like fun! Way to go. I don't think you can lose through all the enjoyment to come, and there's a good chance they will hold some value and possibly increase since they r BUs
I find that I have to give the junk bin a few months to replenish once I've gone through it. I suppose it depends how busy the coin shop is though.
my local coin shop has almost no world coins. he focuses mostly on US coins. I usually buy all my world coins on Ebay. the best time I have is when I go to a coin show in Vegas. they have a huge selection of world coins there. I have not been able to go to Vegas for about 3-4 years now. I sure miss it too. I am more focused on my world coin collection. I usually only buy random world coins only if the design really catches my attention. and that folks is why I have a huge MISC. world coin section. lol someday in the future I will have pics of ALL my coins for you all to see. that seems like a daunting task. someday soon (3 months) lol.
I don't have enough expertise in the subject but I find the Austrailian proof sets and specia edition coins to be exceptionally beautiful. Only hve a couple proof sets now.
someday I will buy a Singapore proof set with proof seahorse coin. beautiful design even better in proof.
Australian proof sets can get pretty expensive. I have several because I am trying to assemble a complete Australian collection and there are several dates that are only made for sets. Some of them from the 80s and 90s sell for $15-$20. That is kind of a lot for sets with no silver in them and modern coins.
I don't have pictures of everything. I'd love to share my collections but I don't see when I'm going to have time to scan hundreds of coins. Actually the most complete collection I have is Greek coins and if I ever try to show off a collection I'll probably start with that.
My son-in-law was raised in Singapore. After he and my daughter got married I looked through my coins and put together a set of the Singapore coinage that has the animals on them. Finally had to order the $1 coin.
those Singapore proof sets go for a lot of money. the fewer the more expensive. they have some on ebay for $130-600+. I just want a frosty looking 10 cent sea horse someday. it will happen. just do not have that money now. photographing my 700+ coins will take awhile. all this time I thought I had at least 1,000 coins.
half the fun is showing them to other people... getting their input/response. I always love it when collectors say they never seen such and such coin and want it now that they have seen mine. I am the same way when I see other peoples coins I have never seen or see a very high graded coin that makes me want 1 that same grade.
envy and jealous are the words for today lol. geez you have 3. wow. seahorse envy. lmao p.s. that bottom 1 really pops (frosty white)
Like anything, buy the best quality you can afford. There are simply less of them. My collecting sphere has been solely foreign/ancient. I started with XF-AU graded coins and have elevated the collection over time focusing on quality. If you compare what a readily available US Morgan Dollar sells for when compared with a 17th century Taler as an example, you will be shocked how much value you can get with world coins. US markets can/will turn on a dime when investor appetite fades. The world coinage is not as driven by investor demand as it is by collector demand. I see more upside there if you know what you are doing. Enjoy the ride, and do not try to flip the coins, yet do keep in mind the future appreciation potential as a factor.
