These both came in my same change this morning..
The penny is a 1944 and the really dark one is a 2002 moon landing quarter.
How it got so dark, I wish I knew but people are digging in their jars that seems fair to say.
My pics are bad I know..:( IMG_20201226_102155.jpg

    The quarter is environmentally damaged.

I know you can take a better pic than that. That one is giving me a headache.

I do think I see an astronaut though.

Yes, so what you can do is block blurry or strenuous pictures like this with Ad Block Plus. Here is my guide on how to do so: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/old-cents-in-spain.362981/#post-4615150.

Edit: Ad Block Plus has been updated a bit since July. When I get around to it I'll produce an updated version of said guide.

People need to realize that close < clear. Take a pic from arms length away and crop it down and it’s going to be superior to one from 1 inch away with no focus

I take pix as close as I can while still in focus. Then I crop it to fill the frame. Post full size.

The Quarter is dark to environmental damage (toning).

    That's an Ohio state quarter.
Birthplace of aviation pioneers, not a moon landing quarter.

I deserve a lashing after posting that awful pic;)

NOS, problem is I use just a very cheap flip phone by choice but thank you for the link to the AD blocker sight.

I just used a cup type magnifying glass and point a flashlight to its side and hovered my flip phone over it to take a pic.

Environmental yes but i'm guessing it was in the ground for sometime as this coin is really dark by eye?? I couldn't tell if it was US or Canadian at first. IMG_20201227_045909.jpg IMG_20201227_045759.jpg

2002 is not old IMO. It looks beat up because it’s clad. Find a 90% that has been in the ground for many years and see the difference.
