Which Brexit? It seems the Brexit of 790 stopped all cross channel trade for two years.

Alcuin of York (a remainer) wrote in early 790 AD:

But I do not know what is going to become of us, for the devil has been kindling his fire so that some dispute has arisen between King Charles and King Offa, with the result that sea crossings have been forbidden to merchants by both parties and are coming to an end.

Thanks for the clarification. I missed the fact that the 'coin' as first posted was a continental sterling and not an English penny. I had read that they existed but had not seen one.

Is that coin posthumous? How can you tell? We all should watch our turkey leg consumption before it is too late.

Has anyone conjectured how leaving the EU might affect regulations on shipping ancient and medieval coins from the UK to other nations? Are there presently different rules for exporting antiquities from Britain to EU countries? Commonwealth Countries? Non EU or Commonwealth countries?

It's sure none of my business (I'm french :) ) but as a devout european, I preferred the way in than the way out

Thanks Doug. For decades I have casually wondered if it is possible to say much about what sort of political program Carausius was pushing. Never dug into the matter though, aside from noticing he had some ideas about reintroducing the good old silver denarius.

I mention this because a century later there was a big push, which I read as being anti-centrist, which had a heavy British focus associated with Pelagius. I have read that 90% of all surviving text deriving from native Roman Britons is Pelagian. But is there any evidence of link at all between the two events?

A nicer coin for sure, especially with the Queen's hand at the 3 o'clock position. The value of this coin has shot up since the new Brexit 50p launch with the 2-coin set selling for 3 or 4 times cost from The Royal Mint. did anyone here buy a Brexit coin?

As this is the forum for “Ancient Coins” I rather hope I am far from alone in replying “No”.

I seem to recall a UK BBC debate a few months back - that maybe went like this:

Staffer Jo Coburn: Brexit has being going on three years now…..

Tom Tugendhat MP cuts in: No, its been going on for 3,000 years.

I looked into it but thought they wanted too much. As they will eventually release 10 million I will see if one turns up in my change.

With only Germany and France left to fiscally hold the rest up, I think the UK will be just fine.

I think Germany and France should pull out too. Its like your in a parthnership in a company, and you(Germany) and France do all the hard lifting, while everyone else is on Holidays having a siesta! Eventually, that company will go bankrupt.
