In Cod We Trust ~1944 Mercury Dime

I just posted this Mercury Dime in an Ancient Thread, for a size comparison and noticed it clearly says "In Cod We Trust". I like Cod too, but this is ridiculous.



Is this a legitimate error?

Nah. Here's an MS68 FB. Some sort of art deco font or something. Edit: the current quarter obverse has the same issue.

 

Maybe there's Mercury in Cod?

 

It's clearly a letter G. Just a weird font.

 

Another grease filled area or part of the G was brushed away at the mint to prolong die life. It’s a common minor error.

 

This whole in COD we trust thing is off the rails. There are so many on eBay it's ridiculous. I guess if people want to spend their money on them that's their business.

 

It's a scam fest on there. I searched "in cod we trust" last night and got like 5000+ results.

 

I got a BU roll of 1944 Mercs, maybe I should head on over to Ebay

 

5000? LOL I wonder if there is someone out there trying to put together an entire date set of in COD we trust

 

If you really want a good laugh do an eBay search on in COD we trust and click on sold items and then priced highest to lowest. Many people have paid six figures for these coins. Scammers and counterfeiters are ruining the hobby.

Forget the We Trust, I like COD. Especially served with a crab cake, scallops and shrimp.

 

If people are paying a premium for that, it’s a waste of money for sure. Unfortunately eBay is a place where novices go to get stuck. The number of counterfeits offered probably leads the entire Internet.
