I thought I would share my impulsive bored at work buys that arrived today. I was well behaved that day so each buy was under $50.

The first is a sestertius of Lucilla. I collect empress mainly 1st-3rd centuries heavier into the Severn era but I haven't gotten around to get a ses of her yet so bored and on ebay I saw this going for $35 at the time from a pawn shop in Las Vegas saying it was from a estate sale of 25yr coll-Bla-bla-bla. I don't believe any ebay story unless I know the seller. Lol Anyway I figured what the hell. Got it for $48 with shipping. Came today and I am not ga-ga over it. I know for the price its good but it doesn't give me that feeling you know. Feel I would have got a better one from sphinx on vcoins but I will let you be the judge.

    Lucilla AE sestertius 34mm, 21.5g 164-166A.D.
Obv: LUCILLAE AVG ANTONINI AVG F
    Draped bust right
    Rev: VESTA S C

The next I got also on ebay from a awesome seller who I actually got the info about coin talk from in his store and decided to join. Thank you Cody111111. And I love them. I know they aren't the rarest but I really like the style and patina of the Antioch local issues. I paid $10 each with shipping.

Diadumenian AE 19 3.2g Antiochia ad Orontem
KAI. M. O. DI. ANTONINOC CE
    Bare-headed and cuir bust right
Rev: Large SC, D/E above and beneath in laurel wreath

Obv: AVT KAI M A ANTWNEINOC
    Radiate head right.
Rev: Large S C within wreath, D-E above, eagle below, star at top of wreath.

Thank you everyone for letting me share and bare with me this is the first thread I have started I can tell I have editing to do. Sorry about photos my set up is under construction at the moment and ty in advance for any comments. PicsArt_03-03-04.36.08.jpg PicsArt_03-03-04.37.50.jpg

Well, that Lucilla has full legends. And at 34 mm, It is an impressive hunk of bronze. I would like to have had more details in the portrait, but for $48, I think you did just fine.

Thank you that actually makes me feel better. At first I thought I paid a bit more then its worth but second glance it is rather nice and I looked again at the one I was thinking about at sphinx it had BD on the face so I will call it a win.

Thats so funny I have that in my watch list. Lol I was leaning more towards that Faustina he has up too. Idk if it doesn't go to crazy I might go for it. I am a sucker for the ladies. Even though I need to cut myself off for a min, I am soo behind in cataloging it getting overwhelming. But in a good way. :cat:

Congrats especially for the Lucilla sestertius.
I am also waiting for my purchases to arrive tomorrow I think, they include a Pius sestertius (worn but full obverse legend) and a Maximinus Thrax sestertius, total 33 EUR and I think it's fair enough.

I got this Lucilla Sestertius from Ebay for 46 Euros (I bought it for the portrait only), but that was five years ago :woot::

That's a sestertius? It looks like it's silver. But it's beautiful, whatever it is.

Thanks @Zebucatt, although the obverse of Thrax is not exactly to brag about, 22 EUR was a surprise for me (I wasn't 100 percent interested in it, it was a shot in the dark). As for Pius 11 EUR, I would gladly accept attributable sestertii for this price.
Sometimes with ancients, if you don't hunt for XF coins, you can find little treasures.

11 EUR that was for sure a steal. Thats the kind of buy that even if you were not interested after seeing the price its a must have. Lol And you are so right about finding treasures when no hunting for gems.
I got this from a lot years ago and I think I paid maybe a dollar a coin. When I got it, it was literally in a dirt clod. After a few months this is what I found. PicsArt_03-04-03.29.15.jpg PicsArt_03-04-03.30.13.jpg

I have looked at hundreds of thousands of Gallienius ants over the years and have only found 1 other example in Goebl 1034e, but I don't have that catalog so I have no solid info except that example was found in the Cunetio hoard AF85384A-265F-4231-AA7D-5B3A26768B06.jpeg

Its AR not washed, 21mm, 3.2g
From the bust style I am thinking its from Milan
    Rev: MARTI PACIFE
Mars standing left holding olive branch in extended right hand, downward spear going between legs in left hand with shield, P in lower left field.

If anyone has any info on this please let me know. Its been my nemesis for awhile. I know I did good for a buck :cat:

    Congrats.
I had the same feeling when I bought my first lot (34 coins) and found little gems there. Described as "Roman bronze" but there was some silver, a Campania bronze and overall almost all of them very interesting....

Your attribution seems correct, a different obverse can be found here (1034q)
    https://www.vcoins.com/en/stores/se...rti_pacife__goebl_1034_q/1388919/Default.aspx

I checked on RIC and a similar coin is listed here (bust variations but not yours)
    http://numismatics.org/ocre/id/ric.5.gall(2).492
But for some reason they didn't add the correct reverse legend.
The one on RIC seems to be Goebl 1034r

Thank you so much for the info. I saw the vcoins one and thats what got my fire flamed again. When I saw the "only 2 known" made me think no way mine is in that class. Lol That to good to be true. I got that photo of the 1034e from a nice Austrian but our language barrier made it impossible to ask more info. So ty all with any info
