I wouldn't bid unless you can go early and sit down and view EVERY dollar there is. And then I would also want to see the RIM on most of the dollars also to make sure that none of them have been played with.

I've heard of people buying a set of these with the 1895 only to find out that on the rim are the words COPY COPY COPY.

Hamman be very careful, don't get auction fever!!! Set a limit and don't go above it no matter what!! And i agree with every one else, try to get a look before bidding. GOOD LUCK!

Man, I hope you don't get burned!

A certain coin source bid on a VG 1893-S is $3250. If any "dealers" get a look at the set and feel they are legit expect the bidding to go way over $1200.

    Good luck but be CAREFUL!

That is good news but still be really careful and take the good advice I've seen on this thread.
Should you get them and then discover that some aren't legit sell them as same. Not worth ruining your reputation. I've sold counterfeits as same and people really appreciate that and remember and respect you for it. You'd still make a profit too.

BE Alert because, as a ex-coworker of mine used to say, the world NEEDS more LERTS.

Well, the coins were much better than I thought they were going to be. Infact, all were ms63+, with a few of the very rare ones in VF (the 1893s was Fine). No one at the auction had that kind of money so there was only two bidders and they were on the phone. The auction didn't go above $9,000, which was $1000 short of the reserve, so it didn't sell.

    Thanks for the upate hamman88,

In that shape $10,000 may have been a bargain. Don't quote me though as I'm not a Morgan nut.

Where's that extra $8800 when you need it? ;O)

That could put a whole new perspective on things, depending on who slabbed them......

I could have sold a house to raise the 19K........lol :hatch:

    Just kidding.....

If you are talking about a complete Set of Morgans (I assume minus the 1895 Proof) plus some extras, slabbed and most of them MS-63, then I would have mortgaged my rearend and sold or pawned anything else that I could to get the money to meet the Reserve plus some extra, if needed! Heck, just the 1893-S and 1889-CC in VF condition, would be worth the Reserve alone! Apparently no Coin Dealers showed up for the Auction as they would not have let such a deal pass.

It was minus the 85 proof. Apparently no coin collectors at all showed up, there was only two phone bids.
