Sort of a late response, but the experience the OP describes is common when dealing with people that are both impulsive and generally introverted. Impulsiveness alone does not take away a sense of courtesy and professionalism towards others, but being very introverted sure does.

TBH, this is the one part I kind of have a problem with Charmy on. No offense Charmy, and I do know this person cost you a little money and a lot of hassle, but its not like s/he accepted a $1000 coin and then just refused to pay. Yes, it was wrong the way it was handled, and you have every right to be PO'ed and not do business with s/he, but personally I would have called s/he MS/MR X, and not even told anyone who it was unless Doug or Peter wished to know. I could even see telling the name to Mark or other dealers here if they were concerned, but to name the name, even if only by PM, I simply do not know how it helps. Like I said, if they had truly scammed you out of the entire purchase price, I would have a different opinion.

    Just my opinion of course.

Perfect example of what I am talking about - everybody has their own idea of what is right and what is wrong. Myself, I agree completely with how Charmy chose to handle it. But does that make me right, or you wrong ? No, it just means we see things differently. My idea of right and wrong, in this instance, is different than yours.

What I see as senseless is people debating their different ideas of right and wrong until a thread like this expands to be 10-20 pages long. And that is precisely what has has happened on numerous occasions on threads that deal with the question of ethics.

No one can ever win in debate about ethics so it is senseless to even try.

I think that is a great idea to place "sale pending, offers accepted" on anything you have a sales of but funds not received. It's not unethical to sell to the first person who actually pays.

Unfortunately, there are good number of people who make a living placing free"options" on items. They lock in a deal, try to resell and of course, drop out if they don't move the items.

I had a problem with vacant land with every broker in the area wanted to give me a deposit for a 90 day escrow. Of course deposits will get refunded, because as long as you hold the money, they have a claim to purchase.

It's kind of a "cheesy" way to make a living in my opinion. But the buyer has assumed no risk at all. And the guys who figure that out all feel like Mensa candidates. They have no regard for the seller or expenses the seller incurs at all.

By noting that no sale is final, until funds are received, you might be able to protect yourself somewhat.

Are you coming to Vegas for the December show ?

Charmy, I'm in sales (not coins). And recently a flip-flopping client cost me a couple hundred dollars...and I took the high road and covered it myself. In a coversation about our next order of business, I told him about it, and made things clear going forward. Sometimes it's all you can do. Just responding with sympathy for ya, nothing else.

To me, it seems like he wanted it shipped so that he could cancel the check and keep the coin.

I doubt it. If that had been his plan he almost certainly wouldn't have canceled orders, been wishy-washy, etc.

Well sometimes I make my posts not with the idea of changing someones mind but to express my own thoughts on something.

My dad always told me a mans word was his bond, so I tend to look at those who change their words and renege on their agreements as being less then men.

Now someone can think that people who change their agreements and renegotiate what was settled are sharp businessmen, I am not trying to change their mind, I am just saying that I think they are not worth being trusted and one should take whatever they say with a grain of salt.

Why don't you just PM her and find out, since you both seem to like to shoot your mouths off so much?

Maybe he just has some issues, and in the end has a social phobia and did not want to talk to someone on the phone.

    Hey, you never know.

Everyone knows it was not right for "Mr. H" to do that without any explanation. For Charmy, I would smack that little nerd just for being unprofessional and not having the cojones to be courteous to his decision made, period.

Oh and if people want to debate for another 30 pages, why not? Let people speak their minds!

Depends on your bank and relationship with the people there. If you are friendly with the managers and/or have a large sum of money deposited there you can usually get most fees waived. These include check canecllations, getting a bank check issued, transfer/withdrawal fees, and most others.
