1878 8 tail feather, and I can't find the correct VAM. VAM 14.20 is relatively close, but the date on my coin looks more than tripled. It looks quadrupled. ???
Thx for the quick reply. The VAM search I did only specified a triple variety. Hopefully the Guru's will weigh in on this. Could it be an undiscovered variety? HA! I don't have that sort of luck......
With only the date I, for one, am unable to help much. For the record, 14.20's tripling is below the crossbars....
Looks like the A1d Reverse associated with 6, 7, 14.5, 14.8 and 14.9. Could we see date, please? Nice detail images!
Wow Super Dave I appreciate the help and if it's the A1d reverse.....wow again what a nice find. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in awhile......I tried to get a pic. of what may be the die chip located on the cheek. Not as prominent as other photos I've seen, but there is something there. I think she deserves a trip up the hill, do you recommend NGC or PCGS for VAM designation.
Looks like VAM-7. You should see a bunch of doubling thru E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the A in STATES on the reverse should have a "spike" through it.
Thank you again. There are so many things going on with this coin I need a secretary Ha! It has been great fun, the roller coaster ride between vam 14.5 and a common vam 7. Several hundred dollars difference. None the less I'm still the blind squirrel that found a nut, this is the most interesting coin in my meager collection. I think she's gorgeous.
