I never really left, but was rendered a stalker for quite a while, college, life, and other odds and ends got in the way. But, more important news! I got some new coins in the collection and my first camera! Earned from hard hours of work: a Canon EOS Rebel T6!!! I'm supper hyped! Anyways, coin yes, hrum... bought this sweet coin a couple of weeks ago at a local show. One dealers actually had a great selection of ancients! Here it is: Antoninus Pius, Sestertius, Rome, AD 148-149, AE Obv. - laureate head r., ANTONINVS AVG - PIVS P P TR P XI* Rev. - emperor standing l., sacrificing over tripod out of patera in field, COS - IIII, , S - C in ex. VOTA. I will be working on lighting and backgrounds "nonsense". Note: I WILL get my SS gift out of my house tomorrow! Please show off your A. Pius examples! Aidan

Nice to see you again @Aidan_() . Good pics, nice camera, and great coin! RI Antoninus Pius 138-161 BCE AR Denarius
You were gone??????? Only kidding. I've been doing my share of lurking in the past couple of months. Nice coin btw.
Mine is an as and shows a bearded Pius with draped head. I liked the coin when I bought it at a show but now regret the purchase. When I did not know I was missing VOTA in exergue, I thought it was full legend but when I got home and looked it up, I discovered my error. The footnote to BMCRE 1812 (your coin) quotes a Variant of reverse with 'Genius Senatus in place of Antoninus (?), Strack no, 1014.' My question is how you tell the two apart. My as looks like Pius to me more than yours does but I have no idea what the coin in the BMCRE note looked like. The coin shown in the BMCRE plate 44,6 looks more youthful than I would call Pius. Each die is different. Such little things are easy to allow run-away imaginations. My as is BMCRE 1817 which is listed as a worn coin with '(VOTA ? in ex.)' so their example (not illustrated in the plates) is missing the VOTA just like mine is. We see things like this in the British Museum Catalogs since they are listings of an actual collection so we can see weights and die axes of their examples. My as is nearly a gram lighter than theirs and has the opposite axis alignment. Whether this information is significant to us is a question.
Good to hear from you again! A nice camera really adds another dimension to the hobby. You picked a good coin as your subject. John
Welcome back, and congrats on the camera and coin! Nothing like a big, hefty A-Pi sest. Not the prettiest, but still pretty pleasing... ANTONINUS PIUS Scarce. AE Sestertius. 24.09g, 32.3mm. Rome mint, AD 141-143. RIC 622. O: ANTONINVS AVG PIVS P [P TR P COS III], laureate head right.
