Read the 1949 book Earth Abides by George R. Stewart.

It explains why Buffalo Nickels are important to human survival after a worldwide disaster.

    For the OP.

Cash in those Lincolns and if you want to buy a metal, use the proceeds for gold and/or silver. There are plenty of folks around here who have plenty of ideas you can learn from.

Correct me if I'm wrong, gang, but one cannot legally melt down a cent, unlike gold or silver coinage, right?

@V. Kurt Bellman, in response to "does it ever go away?" Going through the grief instead of around it helps immensely, although it is very uncomfortable. I still miss my dad after four years, still occasionally say "If only..." I resolve on a daily basis to be the husband, Dad, Grandfather that will be truly missed when I'm gone; I hope my survivors, however, have fewer regrets than I have had.

Hang in there and let the pain hurt, Kurt.

The uncomfortable part is being suddenly transformed into the role of family "patriarch". The actual grieving has been well under way for weeks now. We knew this was imminent. Realizing that his "stuff" is now my responsibility to manage is the weight I feel. And he had some VERY cool stuff. This is the first time I've ever been no living person's "kid". My Dad was 100% Sinatra/Rat Pack style, and some of those suits are still here. He used words like "dames" and "broads" right up until the end.

Yes. It does, as most things will, improve over time.

Unfortunately its like anywhere else in the world now especially behind a keyboard.

You take a kid probably bullied at school, now middle aged. Divorced, kids dont want to look at them, but now feel superior because retired or have their own business and the only enjoyment they get is attacking others to make them feel better about their wonderful life.. Alot of people believe u should see feel and even enjoy like they do or ur dumb stupid inferior ect.

I say if you enjoy collecting whatever more power to you. When the toads come out of their cesspool on here or other sites ignore it or use the ignore button.

This is a great site with many good people but their are several know it alls, miserable old men, and entitled guys with money.

Just like anything else pick n choose what to listen to and what to ignore
