That was a very interesting article whose only questionable aspect regarding the coins authenticity would be the &quot;There are numerous lumps of excess metal throughout Washington&#039;s hair, but they blend in well with the curls of his hair.&quot; statement.</p><p>Given the opportunity and having just a wee bit of knowledge with regard to Washington Quarters, I&#039;d like to have seen good photo&#039;s of the coin(s) in question.</p><p><br /></p><p>As it stands, the only real identifiers the author presented was simply a &quot;suspicion&quot; that the coins were masterfully created fakes due to their relative abundance at one particular coin show.</p><p>Of course, we all know that the Secret Service is next to worthless when examining coins for authenticity with the exception of &quot;obvious&quot; counterfeits so that &quot;letter&quot; is worth no more than the paper it was printed/copied onto.</p><p><br /></p><p>Coin Dealers, of the quick and dirty profit type, are notorious for purchasing counterfeits and an easy target for counterfeiters.</p><p><br /></p><p>BUT, the sudden appearance of what appears to be counterfeit coins at a PCGS Sponsored Coin Show by a PCGS Grader, at the very minimum, should have required a purchase of at least one, possibly tow of the coins for examination and archival purposes to help identify these as they trickled in for grading over the years.</p><p>Meaning, a reference article for future graders and collectors such as what was produced for the Micro O Morgan Dollars. Such and article would have had a definite and lasting impact on the Coin Collecting Community.</p><p><br /></p><p>Lastly, the author never mentions whether the coins were of the Light, Medium, or Heavy Motto varieties which, to a collector, is an important distinction for the 1934 Washington Quarter.</p><p><br /></p><p>As for PCGS? Sure, they make mistakes.
