If you had $500 to invest in coins per month what would you buy?

I always found it odd that collectors of coins would advise others not to invest in coins. Especially when so many have been collecting for decades.

I'm with you on paper investing. Too much creative accounting and skimming off the top nowadays. The only way I would advise investing in stocks is with a 401k where employer matches employee contribution.

I thought the best advice in here by far was given by whoever said get debt free. I believe coins could be good long term investments but I'm not so sure now is a good time to buy. The hobby is on fire right now. Just go to any of the major coin shows and you will see how crowded they are with buyers. Now is a good time to be a seller, imo.

I have seen those coins selling on Ebay. I have seen them selling at Heritage Auctions. I read in Coins Magazine where one of the editors sold a 1908-S Saint in VF condition for $1900 I think. This coin has mintage of 22,000. He lost money on it. He sold a number of Saints, lost on more than one and got a profit on one of the really scarce ones in early 1920's mintage that was one where most of them had been melted down. I am also using Red Book as a rough guide. I think I could go to ebay right now and find one of these coins I mentioned selling for much less than you might think. I am talking about the early scarce Saints and not the ones from late 1920's and 30's that were melted down. I would say the same thing about some of the Liberty Head $20 gold coins that have very low mintage and are not valued that much more than common ones. They do exist. I refer you to December issue of Coins and to article by Mike Thorne PH.D. named "Basics and Beyong: Sale Results". Now if you have to have the coins in MS condition that is another issue.

I will re-iterate: If you know of a source as stated, I'm a complete buyer for the offerings.
Your Statement was: "A 1913-S, 1909-D or 1914 has mintage of less than 100,000 and these are coins that circulated. They are not that much more that 1927 or 1928 with mintage in millions."

Please post your links to these believed imaginary coins of which you refer.

Go to Ebay.com and put 1908-S in the search box and take a look. What I am saying is that these early Saints which have low mintage relative to higher mintage coins are not that much more expensive in certain grades than others. If you compare values of 1908-S, 1909-D, 1913-S and 1914 Saints all of which have mintage below 100,000 they are not that much more than coins with mintage over 1 million. Are you saying the coins I mentioned don't exist? I have seen them. They do exist in this dimension. Maybe not in your dimension where you live. In HA the guy I mentioned Dr. Thorpe sold a 1922-S which is one of the coins he says was a meltdown and I know was a meltdown Saint for $2800. He sold 1909/8, 1913-S and 1914 Saints for $1300, 1900, and 1800, respectively. This is from Coins Magazine December 2015 Issue. Argue with Coins magazine if you like. If you are calling them liars that is OK by me. If you want me to buy the coins I am talking about and are willing to pay 20% commission I would consider doing it for you. I need a contract from you saying you will accept my terms that can be enforced in Florida. I need some help here! These coins do exist on HA or even Ebay if you are willing to buy from these sources. I have seen them for sale at both places.

I'll never understand how your statement morphed into rambling about a 1922-S and 1908-S St. Gaudens. I've all of the coins you mentioned in high MS grades, and don't need assistance from someone who inserts "hearsay" gibberish into posts without support for same.

I'll post my images of your rambling coins when you post factual auctions selling your stated coins with pricing stated.

I apologize if this response to an intransigent poster is found offensive to other viewers.

You are becoming offensive to me. So I have asked the management in on it. They will probably boot both of us. If not you can build your imaginary case against someone else for leading collectors astray in your mind.
