One warning. Once you buy a gold coin you will be hooked. I used to collect WLH's, SLQ's, Morgans and Peace dollars. Last year a $2.5 Indians caught my eye at a show and now I buy mainly gold. What started as a type set in gold is slowly expanding. Do a lot of looking. There are some nice coins out there that have dropped a lot in price.
Maybe not just one, but A couple of high dollar ones at least. I was looking for a 1912 proof Barber quarter or half. I was looking at the 1911 D Strong D types for the 2.50 gold indian, and in details grades they run 2-3 grand. I don't want a problem coin and ones other types seem to run in the 5-7 grand range.
If you buy a $10 Indian, avoid the two most common dates (1926 and 1932) unless you enjoy having very common coins that most collectors of the type have.
