    How about:
If you could only purchase ONE coin book, which one would it be?

Some may say the Red Book, or Breens, or what would your choice be????????

My vote would definitely be the Red Book, tons of info, and the grey sheet is always handy for pricing.

Does it matter if its in different volumes? If not, I'd go with the Sylloge Nummorum Graecorum. Its a catalogue of ancient Greek coins in museums across Europe and North America in well over 50 volumes. Very useful, but veeeeeeeery expensive.

The Lange book on Lincoln Cents, even though I already have it, and I was only allowed owning one book, than that would be my choice. :D

    Phoenix

I'd have to say the Redbook. Lots of general info. They could leave the prices out and it would still be a good choice. (mabey better);)

I'd love to get the Breen book someday, if my budget allows!

I'd hope everyone would answer a grading book.

I was just about to say Photograde. It's the book I've probably referred back to more than any other over the years. I'm sure it isn't as good a the ANA book but I haven't owned that one as long. I can get prices from the internet, so I really don't need a price guide.

Start watching---I've seen some go as low as $50-$75. I think I paid around $75 for mind but had shipping on top of that.

Wow, that's in my budget! Where have you seen them for that price? Last time I looked, they were going for almost double that price. Thanks Speedy!

    Good answer !

If one expects to have mostly circulated coins, the "ANA Grading Standards" book is far superior to Photograde IMO.

For Uncs and Proofs, Jim Halperin's "How to Grade US Coins". Fantastic... it describes a technique, a method - applicable to any series.

Rather than a simple "hold your hands" approach, he shows one how to figure it out for one's self.

NOT the Red Book... there's nothing there that can't be had at coinfacts.com...
