Another curious question: If 2 coins have the same exact grade one from PGCS and one from NGC why would there be a difference in price? PCGS being priced higher.
Two reasons, IMO: 1) The PCGS coin is the better coin (i.e. real value). -AND/OR- 2) The PCGS name is the better name (i.e. perceived value).
p.s. the perception is that NGC grades more loosely than PCGS. This is the case sometimes, and other times it is not. Without the skill to grade yourself, it is very difficult to be able to distinguish the difference (particularly in the more subtle grading differences).
Caution is needed here It is no secret that I have crossed NGC 58's into PCGS 63RB holders. On a regular basis. Be vary careful.
So PCGS is perceived as the "better" company. I don't want to open that can of worms I'm just trying to learn from you guys. Thanks Guys!
Other possibilities are: the PCGS coin has better eye appeal the PCGS coin has a better strike than the NGC coin both coins are accurately graded but the NGC coin barely made the grade and the PCGS coin is very high-end for the grade the PCGS coin has more desirable toning than the NGC coin if the coins are copper and have the same color designation (BR, RB, RD) the PCGS coin has more red than the NGC coin
