If this Morgan toner had straight graded what do you think it would be worth?

Sort of like a natural vs. artificial diamond.

Very much like it. Artificial diamonds were of insufficient quality for many years and suited only for industrial grade uses. But plasma research has created some very good quality real diamonds. The assumption that it required many thousands of years under heat and pressure has been dispelled.

Similar maybe, but not the same. Man made diamonds, no matter how good they are, can still be identified as being man made.

When artificial toning is done correctly it is physically and chemically impossible to tell AT from NT. The reason nobody can ever tell one from the other is because both are caused by the exactly the same chemical reactions between the metal and chemicals in the air. The only real difference is intent - NT happens accidentally and AT happens intentionally.

And while it can be accurately said that time is also a factor with AT, it is also a factor with NT. Some NT takes a long time to occur, years or even a decade or two. But some NT occurs relatively very quickly, in a matter of a few weeks or a month. It all depends on the conditions and variables.

The time factor with AT could easily be adjusted to take years or even a decade if you wanted to, but it can just as easily be done in a few hours. But in all cases with AT and NT the chemical reactions are identical and cannot be distinguished from one another.

Good. Don't buy any coin with color. Problem solved.

Buy only blast white...can't go wrong doing that, because they must be OK, since they were shiny baubles when they were fresh from the Mint, so.....

    Sigh.

@ddddd I was not aware this is your coin. Personally I think its NT, and a fair price your asking for it as is it sits.

I have a lot tied up in inventory and holiday spending, otherwise I would have already pulled the trigger.

Natural diamonds usually have a very small amount of Nitrogen in the crystal, whereas not in artificial diamond unless it is inserted into the process to fool experts. Assume they are all fake when it comes to the price, IMO. Jim.
