If NGC wants us to take them seriously, they need to stop lying.

 Will someone please take a photo of the design details of any coin and alter the sharpness of the photo so this "monkey" (referring to my opinion of course and not any member on this thread :angelic:) will get off my back. We have several semi-professional photographers posting on the US forum who could do this to prove my point and educate those posters here who know little about photographic camera tricks with lighting and lenses. Unfortunately, they are also "USS Dimemorons" and are not interested in ancients at all. :(

I just used the "ignore" feature for the first time. I suspect it won't be my last.

 Another modern "educated" teacher? If not, you think like one of those Ivy League trained scholars - :yack::yack::yack::yack::yack: over the obvious. Nevertheless it is good to question facts so I'll play along.

Here is a little experiment I hope you'll try. Take some Vicks and rub it all over your glasses. Are the details of the room you are in sharp or blurred. That should tell you something that's obvious! Changing the characteristics of a lens affects what you see. Oh, in case you don't wear glasses, put some Vicks under both eyes and see what happens - :hilarious::hilarious::hilarious::hilarious::hilarious: same thing.

Funny thing, In many cases, knowledgeable folks with no degrees on their wall :jawdrop: can often tell where a coin came from by its appearance, spectra-graphic signature, and dies. Much of the outward "evidence" can be obliterated with cleaning. There are several common instances of this in the U.S. Coin field. One of the scholars here will know evidence of this with ancients. ;)

Damn, @Insider , you're really burning some bridges here. Sometimes I agree with you, sometimes I don't, but you're crashing and burning here, dude.

If you want to prove a point about photography, why don't you do it yourself, man? The antagonistic and vitriolic way you are spouting your diatribe is not making any friends or convincing anyone here. I get what you are saying, man, and I probably would agree with you if you were being nice about it... but you need to relax, man.

Please tag SuperDave! I know what I see in photos. My camera rig is set up for micro-photography. I will post what I asked for and change the appearance of a coin's details on a small part of a coin by just changing the light and orientation of the coin.

Not part of the RBW NAC sales, but part of the same collection. RBW's collection was massive and included many duplicates with his best coins being offered at NAC 61 & 63 and the rest still slowly being disbursed into the market through various dealers and auction houses(i.e. CNG, Agora, David Hendin/Amphora Coins and others).

You can't get points or be banned if you play nice and just have differences of opinion.

Actually, I've given this some thought. IMO, there is nothing I have posted in this thread that can be proven to be false about photography, ancients, NGC, or grading. I've been asked to prove an opinion with photos; yet this forum is FILLED WITH EXAMPLES of members posting photos of the identical coin that do not resemble each other. I've decided that you all know much more about numismatics than I do + you have many more degrees.

So, I'm not posting photos of anything. I am completely wrong. :p:D The professor is completely correct. :p:D When a troll :troll: is backed up to the bridge he ducks under it and hides. :bigtears::bigtears::bigtears: Then he just melts away as an AE dupondius with BD. :yuck:

What is hilarious is that I ignored the Troll some time ago. Completely gone! But, I can STILL sense the absurdities from it JUST from everyone elses comments and frustrations. LOL. I wonder how it would be if EVERYONE ignored it? If it had no audience for its ridiculous "education" diatribes?

It even may "like" my post with its warped sense of perspective.

Guys , please don't give me reason to think some are trying to egg him on. If you are going to ignore, then do so. If you are going to reply, thats fine also within the rules. If you are trying to start something that causes an infraction do not be surprised if it goes both ways. Not directed towards anyone in the thread. Jim

I don't like using the ignore and I kinda feel awful doing so. However, I dislike conflict, especially when it's not necessary.

BTW, I love the "Digital Damnatio Memoria" @Carthago. Thoughtful response.

Jim, no member here has done anything to offend me. No one has inspired me to continue except to defend my opinions. I am learning very quickly to be careful with posts. Besides, I like the attention when we are educating others.

I grew up in an age when we all called one another names. I attended a boarding school with all the names for every race and nationality thrown around in jest! I was called in two words of three letters each: an "Italian of the Jewish persuasion." My roommate was a dirty one five letter word of the "Mexican persuasion." :jawdrop::hilarious::hilarious::hilarious: Political correctness was still a glimmer in the eyes of those seeking to destroy America.

I feel it is OK to pin my ears back demanding answers as in the past year I have changed my opinion twice and I'll guarantee I have done the same to others.

Although I have absolutely no say in anything concerning the rules, I consider this thread to be informative and entertaining. I'm also thankful that you have let it continue in spite of a few slips of my tongue. :sorry: I stick by everything numismatic that I have posted here and hope to continue "sticking-it-in" and "twisting-the-blade" in a friendly manner each time there is an opening concerning something I do not agree with! IMO, this thread is more fun than a "What did you find on Ebay today" thread and it generates a lot of opinions.

Finally, in a post above, I indicated that I don't feel obligated to explain the obvious to anyone I feel should know better; and I thank them anyway for asking. ;)

I , for one, appreciate the passion of everyone on this thread.

That said, let's please be respectful.

I've seen too many people run off of other subforums here and other sites.

I appreciate the knowledge and experience Barry and others bring. Let's not alienate our members.

Remember, it's our common love of ancient numismatics and ancient history that brings us here. Let's not resort to ad hominem attacks to express our differences in opinion. Unlike the current presidential debates, I think we can expect better of ourselves.

We've worked too hard to make this the best place anywhere on the internet to discuss ancient numismatics. To paraphrase Benjamin Franklin, this is a great forum "if we can keep it. "

    AGREE...Our common love of numismatics!

IMO, this thread got derailed when a member of the ancient forum posted some questionable comments. I am guilty of calling him out in an immature way. Nevertheless, very few members took issue with his statements. Thankfully, the NGC grader explained the case masterfully. IMO, that's when the thread should have returned to "tooling."

PS: The "ignore" button is great - use it. That way, I'll continue to learn from all of you w/o needing to get off into the weeds. :watching:

Well... considering the $1 Ban Liang sold for $26 plus $4.95 shipping, the $1 Huo Quan sold for $17.50, and the $3 Hong Wu sold for $33, it sounds a bit more like a legitimate consideration.
