On ebay PF70 1996 ASE's sell for about $400. Shouldn't it be approximately the same? I know, not to a shop, but open market value should be something around $400 I would think.
I'm really surprised by the responses to my question. Maybe I should have put it in my original post, but the reason I was asking was because of the wildly different prices this coin has sold for on Heritage. I took the advice of many on this board and checked the completed auctions there. Only 3 have been sold. The first one about 3 years ago for around $3700. The second one some time last year sold for over 21K and the third one earlier this year sold for over 6k. So what's a good asking price?
Right on Right on - The refiner will pay me 98% of spot usually. Unless Bullion goes up (crap shoot), there really is no money in Bullion Coins for me. If I buy a large quantity of bullion coins and bullion goes down, a real disaster. I buy coins based on what I can sell them for and make a profit instantly. For esoteric Bullion Issues graded 70, it takes some collector bidding it up at auction to get all the money. In this economy - good luck! I can understand you want all the money for your coin - auction your best route but be sure and put a reserve on it. If you have access to Teletrade you can research past auctions to see what a realistic floor for you coin really is. PCGS Coin Facts would be another source if you are up to paying the monthly subscription fee.
No way a B&M will pay that kind of money... Send it to Heritage asap and cross your fingers that there is another sucker out there to spend that kind of money. I'm thinking that with a spread of 3.7k to 21k on Heritage alone let alone dealers here that would offer less then bullion that those Heritage prices are Speculation and NOT Numismatic value.
Here's a MS-70 Silver Eagle I found certifed MS-70 by NGC. http://cgi.ebay.com/1996-1-NGC-MS-7...589?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item25587d0275 Too overpriced even if its the key to the series.
What they list for and what they actually sell for, though, are often light years away. You can't just look at what the seller wants to determine worth, because the seller rarely gets what they ask for. Guy
Where did you find heritage sold price of $3700 to $2100, I found 9 1986 PR70 by NGC that were sold in the last 6 years, none sold for over $1000, most were in $500-600 range. The NGC population for PR70 went up quite a bit over the years, now there are over 2000 of them for that grade.
darn. I thought tht this was a joke thread. Ya know the one: A guy walks into a coin show and the owner says 'hey, what is that duck on your head?' fill in own punch line. bah, and I was so interested in the punch line.
