I’m working on a world type set of my father’s birth year, 1921. I vacillate between quality and quantity, and at some point need to make that decision.

My father got me interested in coin collecting sixty years ago. I’m doing this in his memory. I’m also picking up a few coins from 1870, birth year of his father.

If I am pleased at some point, I will continue with my male ancestors’ birth years (next would be 1842). Perhaps I’ll go to my mother’s side after that, but don’t want to spread myself too thin.

My main collection is a "one per year" type set. I try to get as many different countries and designs as I can. A collection like that can have a great deal of flexibility as to denominations, metal composition, etc.

Wow. Your grandad was 51(!) when he had your father!

When you say "world type set," just how extensive would the "world" be? How many countries?

What I could do is to find images first, design the album and publish it online. Only issue is copyright issue which is why I have always been hesitant in releasing in public.

I guess what I can do is to buy the coins first, design the album and then sell them with a copy of album with the disclaimer that I still own the rights to the digital album.

Still no takers in anyone wanting to give me images for me to start on the next project?

@mlov43, yep; not only was he 51 when Dad was born, but Dad had two younger siblings, one of whom is still living, she's 91. Dad was almost 92 when he died from injuries sustained in a vehicle accident. Grandpa John was therefore 56 when my aunt was born and he lived to be 89.5 years.

I am not limiting myself to any countries/continents, yet. I just stay on the lookout for those two dates and try not to go crazy with the "Bid" button.

Reminds me of my Grandparents. My Grandfather was 41 years old and my Grandmother 17 when they got married. Together they had 12 children. my Grandfather died in 1968 at the age of 91 and my grandmother died in her late 80s. today 3 of the children are still living. My 90 year old mother is the oldest of the surviving children.

I have have done several type sets over the years and one of the problems has been how to present the collection. @gxseries was able to inspire me to do so with digital albums. It took me a long time to teach myself how to do so. While I have not reach the level of his work yet, I learn a little more each time I try. Anyone who is interested in a unique way to showcase their collection should take him up on his offer.
You can see some of my work here. https://issuu.com/mikelarson2. To get some ideas of what can be done. I'm sure he would like to collaborate with you.

I think I've asked this before, but don't recall--is there a way to click on the actual coin image in the album to expand it?

I was considering asking about a digital Japan Type album along the lines of the old Dansco 7460 (but with a couple corrections, plus extend to the current era).

I'm sure I've seen someone do this but it would be fun to make one with my own coins. Those are currently in a NGC custom set, but the album presentation would be super cool. Otherwise, I've been neglecting a type set on a vanity website.

My Albanians would look pretty nifty in an album too...

Stork, it can be done. It's just that the size online is made smaller. Use the fullscreen button at the bottom and zoom in. Quite reasonable size but the quality can be better. An updated version Japan type album has been done a while ago.

I have no knowledge of Albanian coins but I can always look it up.

There is a way to expand the view.

    Normal page view:
    option view.JPG

If you place your cursor over the page you will get the options in the lower right corner. The last icon will give you a full screen view. Best for viewing album.

    Full screen view:

By using the + or - bar you can expand the page for close up viewing.

    Hope this helps

I have thought about a modern Greek type set starting in the 1830s and using World War II as an ending boundary. The pre-WW II Greek coins would be fun to collect and while some are expensive in mint state, using some VF/XF samples, you could build a nice set with a mix of clad, silver and gold coins.

Just in case you haven't seen what I have designed, this is my link

I should split them apart as some of them are scans. Don't think issuu has that function yet...

I see a few albums I don't recall seeing before. The emblems of the front cover are amazing. I know they take a lot of time to do. Very tedious and require a steady hand. When one is working on details as small as 1 pixel, a sneeze can be a disaster.

Interesting article, @juris klavins! Thank you for the link. I’d love to pick up those coins for $181 as the author did in 1971.
