Can some one please ID this small (15mm x 17mm) base metal coin please. I’m hopeless on Byzantium coins !
It looks like a monogram on the reverse, maybe research monograms a bit - it may lead you in the right direction.
Something like this...https://www.vcoins.com/en/stores/ci...hessalonica_mint_near_vf/1205197/Default.aspx
For the benefit of others who view this later, someone should point out the reverse was shown upside down. Sear lists two variations separated by monogram details and weight. Note our coins differ as to minor details. I assume specialists (not me!!!) understand this.
See this topic: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/the-many-faces-of-the-same-coin.353858/ Your coin is a half tetarteron of Manuel I, Sear 1979. Reverse (monogram) in you picture is upside down.
Manuel was an interesting emperor. He co-led a crusade against Egypt, handled the bickering factions of the Second Crusade which passed through his territory needing supplies, led by Louis VII of France. Considered a "fiend" by the Latins, he also attacked Sicily and was the last Byzantine emperor to attempt territorial gains in the West. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manuel_I_Komnenos
Kentuck, I think you need to post that in Discoveries of Advanced Prehistoric Civilization thread and have one or two REALLY freak out... Tell that this guy was photo’d picking up and moving some big rocks around.
Ummm... LOL, It was a joke (yeah I know, things are easy to google and paste) It would still be fun to get some of them all riled up.
Maybe @paddyman98 should visit some of these pre-history sites with his metal detector and see if he can find a computer...
