All I know is whenever you send a ICG coin to pcgs to be regraded , the grade of the coin drops by one or two grades most of the time. Whenever you crack open a pcgs coin and send it to ICG for grading it grades higher than pcgs, check it out.

I used ANACS for a couple of doubled dies I found roll hunting. The rest of them are in mylar flips. The ones I had slabbed I did to protect them. Mainly from myself. The ones that aren't slabbed are more fun as I can take them out and photograph them. I personally would not use the more prestigious services because it's more expensive to have them slabbed. Im not planning on selling them and none are MS anyway. ANACS is having a special now for $10.00 each for 5 coins minimum plus two more for free, they will grade and slab them. Error attribution is extra but not that much. Im on the fence since I like my coins raw but I may just do it.
As far as slabs go, I think it is best to stick with PCGS or NGC. But you still have to judge that coin inside that slab yourself to determine whether it's average for the grade, strong for the grade -- or whether the grader was out to lunch entirely.
I do not know how long you have collected, how advanced you are or how rich you are NEVERTHELESS, IMO anyone who pays $$$$ for a common Lincoln cent because it grades higher than MS-66 is an ignorant FOOL! This is why: 1. There is no guarantee that the coin will not deteriorate in the slab. An MS-70 can drop to a 64 and the "red" can easily go to red-brown. You are out of luck here if that happens and $$$$ can turn to $$ (Nothing Special) really fast. 2. 95% of the coin dealers/collectors could not tell the difference between an MS-67, MS-68, or MS-69 Red coin although every one of them would tell you they could! 3. From experience I can tell you that many MS-66 coins slabbed by ICG or ANACS are the equal of many PCGS or NGC MS-67's and even some 68's. Nevertheless, the truth is that any PCGS coin will be considered more desirable. Do some research and look at the desirable coins $$$$ will buy. Then purchase an ANACS, ICG MS-65 or 66 common Lincoln for $30 that is just as nice as the $$$$ PCGS coin and spend the rest of your money on A REAL COIN! Let the FOOLS speculate on the junk and you should come out far ahead in the future.
Have you noticed all these dealers using BU grades on especially Lincoln’s cents. Most don’t have a clue that BU means “Brilliant Uncirculated” . It’s a sad situation. I’ve been tying to put together a real nice set and am finding out that many dealers will take photos that hide the real color and condition. I’m also finding out that the only way to really get a great coin is stay with graded certified ones. There’s just too many only looking for getting as much as they can for garbage and not caring for real quality and being honest sellers.
Thanks for asking that question! Great responses also! I never would have thought about ICG before this article.
