Most of the time, I feel the ICG coins fall short or just make the grade, but every once in a while I see one that I think would cross at the same grade or better. I bought a coin for @Santinidollar in the past year that I felt was a lock for the grade, and I felt fortunate to do so because a market was being made in that date by another dealer at the time. Focused only on PCGS / NGC coins, he must have passed right by that holder and left it for me to satisfy my customer. That was a nice coin, and belongs in a PCGS or NGC holder at the same grade.
I have some ICG coins but not expensive enough send in. They are nice for the assigned grades. I like their holders as stack easily and look nice. Unless coin justifies cross expense I would not worry about cross over game. Just value them at CU or NN Coin Market or whatever suits you. ICG is one of the TPG recognized by eBay, good enough for me lol.
Cracked out an ICG 65 Morgan, purchased at 62-63 money, kept it for a while, and finally sent it to PCGS. It came back 65.
Here's a nice AU 58 1917 SLQ in an ICG slab currently auctioning on eBay. What do you think the two big TPGs would grade it? I think it would be an excellent coin in my 7070 album. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/293203901623
Seller located in China, 0 feedback. I would avoid on that basis. OTOH, I see no reason why the pictured coin would not cross to another service. ICG is fine at detecting fakes and cleaned coins. If you were buying in person or from a reputable seller, I would say go for it.
I bought some of my first Morgans at ebay auction in ICG holders, none going for anywhere near NGC or PCGS prices. Sold easily a couple of points below (MS66 for MS63-64 money, for example), and with wild, suspect toning on some. I'd like to get rid of all but maybe one. Oh, and NO WAY mine would cross over at their current grades. The 66s may get 65s, but the toned ones would get bagged, I'm sure. I did exactly 4 coin videos a few months back on youtube before calling it quits, but I did get some footage comparing my ICG Morgans to my similarly graded PCGS 1$s. If you can stand listening to a newb talk about coins, you'll at least see some clear examples of what this thread's talking about. The first 2min30 are just the PCGS coins, then you see the ICGs side by side. And I suck at filming. https://www.cointalk.com/media/morg...eal-part-3-questionable-grades-youtube.10755/
