Well, her right breast. And all of the glory on the reverse. But, you know, it's just a jpeg of a snapshot... So, I asked. Maybe there was an egregious divergence in grading practices between NGC and PCGS across the years. As I said, it's not my area, so I asked.
Yes, the half dollar appears to be weakly struck in the area from 9-12 o’clock (obv), including the stars. Looking at Liberty’s breast (can I say this there’s wear on the quarter, but not on the half. I guess that’s why I didn’t consider the strike too much.
they have always been a favorite of mine, though nowadays beyond my price range, but, oh, 40 years ago they were in the 2-5.00 range for avg. circulated, and in my parent's time some came in as payment for groceries at the store they worked in in the Bronx (where they met) they saved at least 200.00 face value of Indians and all silver, buying it from the shop=keep at the end of the day, and that is how i got started collecting when i was 10 yrs old, 3 years later i met an exchange student pair, the boy became my best friend, and his cousin, Franswa, became my second girlfriend for about 3 years, lol that is when i went full time into selling coins as well..by the time i was 15 i was making a good chunk of change every Sunday at coin shows, me DA' drove me, he sold stamps and such, but mostly he just brought me so i could work my magick back then..been off and on again collecting, just started again few months ago...love the hobby, the history and the beautiful designs, and as you said, and tis true, just like women, they all are wonderful
My 1853 A&R's: This one has no rays, but it does have some arrows: Meanwhile, across the Atlantic in the year 1853 in Frankfurt, Germany: (has neither arrows nor rays, but its really is a lovely coin! - amazing detail in a coin the size of a dime)
Here are my other 1853 dated coins. As far as the small silver goes, I'm partial to the 1837-38 no stars variety over the arrows.
@Eduard Love your 6 Kreuzer piece, they really did a good job with the city view reverse. I completely forgot that I have another US coin from 1853 in my collection:
Please forgive what may be a dumb question, but isn't 1853 awfully late for a city view coin? Most that I have seen have been late 17th century to the mid 18th.
Sorry - what are "A&R" coins? EDITED: Nevermind, I just saw the post with the slabbed coin. Arrows and Rays. Thanks.
You weren’t kidding, @Cazkaboom : I see everything from nice toners to original circulated to cleaned and damaged coins in your initial posts. Just don’t buy up all the 1853 quarters and halves; save at least one of each for me & my type set lol.
Oh, what a surprise. Of course 6 kreuzer would be about like a US silver dime, but the detail was so stunning, that in my head, I re-tariffed it as a half a thaler. You know, we do have a couple of City Thaler threads. This would be welcomed there.
Likewise, my apologies for this somewhat late answer. As a matter of fact, you are correct: city views are very unusual in 19th century German State coinage. The exception is the coinage of the Free City of Frankfurt. City views were used from the early 1600's until ca. 1857. There is an even tinier One Kreuzer coin from Frankfurt depicting a city view.
1853.... my birth year plus 100. My favorite 1853 Arrows Only is this L Countermarked and bent yellowish coin for sale on Stillwater Craigslist.
