No i havnt been back yet. I wanted the dust to settle first. But as of now I was told that kennedy halves are no longer avail by the bag from that bank. They have to be ordered from the mint regardless if they have 10,ooo there or not. But im still going to try. I still have my little conversatation with the regional manager in my back pocket...... Ill know for sure on Monday
aim high why be jealous its not like he found a 1933 double eagle we all spend thousands every month on coins if a kid finds a few bucks its nothing to be jealous about
Dang, wish I had thousands to throw around on coins every month. I guess a good deal is a good deal no matter how much we are talking about, a few hundred or a few thousand, what difference does it make. We all have to start from somewhere.
ho said anything about throwing i meant collecting to make a collection thats worth something one needs to spend a few bucks
Nice find. My experience is that most tellers in banks are younger ladies that really do not know a lot about numismatics. Most of them would not know silver if it came up and bit them in the bottom. But these young ladies are usually more than helpful to dig through the half dollars for me, in order to find those "nasty" pre-1970's etc. I do know that they usually know enough to send the people $500's and $1000's to that place downtown that pays at least 1.5 X face for them.
Well this one tell thats helps me a little bit, but she knows a little about paper currency. She has a really nice 1950 $50 almost perfect that she found a few weeks ago. She was trying to save enough to swap it out. I was going to offer her 70.00 for it but I dont want to take all her little jewels...lol she helps me I help her. I have no problem returning a favor with a dinner certificate or starbucks cards.
I have not done that, I have wanted to, but am afraid they will get in trouble or worse for it. The bank where I do most of my horsetrading, I know the manager, the asst. manager well and for a long time. So I pretty much can ask the tellers to sort through stuff etc, and trade etc. But I never have given them gifts, other than selling them my finds from other banks. And those troublesome varmints like this come my way eventually:
WOW very nice. Can I have it ?????? I mean I dont give gifts in the open. When i do go up there, I usually say something like sorry I missed your birthday, or Merry Christmas, Happy Easter that kind of crap.....lol
Thread nearly three dang years old. Folks posting in it that are a mere memory..... And no Gary, you are not an idiot.
They keep these threads listed at the side as if they were current. Sometimes I see one and click on. Man, I got a darn good med program that keeps time in the present. lol I seem to miss these old time dates on some of these though. Maybe we could get a way to show old threads in a different color or something ? You know, green for current, blue for no posts in 30 days, purple for 90 days and red for a year or longer ? Just a thought on it.
Hmmm. That's the Gambler's Lament. Fortunately for roll searchers, the worst they can do is break even. Congrats to the OP.
Cost of gas and time makes that not the case. I'm up, but a long run of skunks could bring me down in a hurry.
"Gambler's Lament" ??? Hey, there is ALWAYS a better betting situation or a bigger win ! I went a 13-0 last season on a NFL contest here in Vegas and won a pile. 09 season I hit a 15-0 one week and was the only winner. New Goal = 2-3 perfect weeks in a row. Ultimate goal = as many wins as I can get. Point is, there is always something to find or score as long as you are able to participate. Once won, that's history. The new win should be as thrilling as the last, simply because the thrill is in the hunt. gary
Well, gambling that is entirely focused on exceeding the previous record win is pathological. It's akin to a druggie trying to get higher than ever before. Or a sex addict trying to achieve the "perfect" orgasm. If you're engaging in a certain activity for profit, then the main metric you use is whether it's profitable long term, and whether you can't come up with another activity requiring a similar commitment that's more profitable. Certainly there are less tangible factors that go into the decision; quality of life, affect on others, etc. But looking for an ever-bigger score and never being satisfied with less is a troubled and troubling pursuit.
Hey John, not many people who engage in sports betting for long term here in Vegas intend to lose. lol However, I must honestly say that each year I need to scramble for deductions to offset the wins as much as I can. True, degenerate gamblers abound, but I certainly don't fall into that category. Being retired, I only place wagers on what I believe to be predictable events on outcomes I believe will happen. In fact I had placed "Futures" wagers on both Pittsburgh and Green Bay a few weeks before the end of the season when the outcome was foreseeable and the return was calculated for profit. It is not for everyone and is very difficult to constantly pick 54% or better Against the Spread that is needed to break even against the Vigorish. However you toss it though, it makes about as much sense as spending several times the face value to buy coin. According to my wife anyway. lol But contests are a different animal. This is competetion against other handicappers. Much like golfers try to improve their game, handicappers must try and improve their skills. It actually is a life long quest to better yourself. Like any athelete who tries to shave a few seconds or add a few inches, the sickness of competing overtakes us and we always strive after a higher goal. People are capabe of doing some things for profit and some things for fun. And sometimes it can overlap, like a stockbroker who not only works for commissions, but buys spec stocks for himself.
