I wanna run away from rainbows!

To further illlustrate my point, take a look at before and after photos of Island's photo compared to my photo. The first is their photo on their website. The second is their photo after a hue modification of +10 and a saturation modification of -20. I promise my photo is not color modified other than auto leveled and brightness. I consider my photo a very accurate representation of the coin's actual appearance. Notice how the second modified photo of Island's looks alot like mine.



Some collectors become very angry at what they call juicing of photos. I personally just accept it as part of doing business. In order to compete with the flagrant juicers, almost every online dealer of toned coins is forced to make some minor adjustments to their photos in order to ensure they make a profit on the coins. More often than not a great toned coin will always look better than a photo can represent. It is all but impossible to capture the effect that luster has on the color in a photo. Some dealers resort to radical enhancement of their photos which leads to an inaccurate representation of the coin. As long as you can predict what the coin will look like with a high level of consistency, you can overcome the practice of juiced photos. However, it is really not something I can teach, experience is the only teacher in this area of collecting toned coins.
