That's a great coin, great story and fantastic provenance. We really need to be thankful to previous collectors for hanging on to old labels and envelopes as I am sure a lot of slabbed material gets separated from the provenance material. A major TPG lost a paper Sotheby's envelope I sent with a coin to be graded. The envelope had been written up with the lot number and contents of a shipwreck coin with the buyer details and now the lump of plastic simply says the ship it was recovered from and it joins the anonymity of hundreds of others. I hope you succeed and that your ancestors provenance is recorded on that label but give them a photocopy of the labels. I would never ever give a TPG original paperwork again.

Ironically I have been grading a number of shipwreck coins to ensure the wreck provenance stays with the coin exactly for the reason that I was concerned I might lose the original COA's or other paperwork.

This is my Balbus ex-Navilles with a different control letter under the Quadriga.

I bought mine as a VF which I thought a fair and accurate grade but if you look at the details on your coin I would call it EF for an ancient. Compare the details of the wings of my Victory to yours as one example. You can see every feather or pearl but mine are worn flat. I stand by the VF grade of my coin. Given the large shadow stain on the reverse of mine it would probably come back as "environmental damage".
