Speaking of selling, its good therapy to let go of some coins every once in a while. Besides, it gives you some fiat money to buy some more coins, or precious metals. This, of course, makes complete cents
Those with two-cent collections may keep going with the two-cent colonials or 2-centavos coins of our neighbor, Mexico. Clinker
I wish I could go to a coin shop and just buy one coin! Alas, your level of self control won't last long...:goofer:
If you think you might end up liking two cent pieces a lot, I recommend the book Getting Your Two Cents Worth by Kevin Flynn. There are a LOT of varieties for those, and they're mostly unknown. Tons of doubled dies, RPDs, MPDs... Yeah. Plus, Stanton Books has it for less than $20. Congratulations, and good luck, Fish
I agree---I used to not want to sell anything but when I started it gave me a better understanding of the market and how it works---it also makes me hunt around for better deals and such. Speedy
Oh, no. the very though of letting something go! Everytime I do sell something, I re-think it for months. It is like letting some of my children go away. I always want to sell with the priviso that I can visit them in the future. But, I insist tht they get a good home.
I love 2 cent coins. I just aquired a sm. motto in April at the one show per year in my area that I do attend. It's a raw coin, XF I believe. But what a deal, I swapped a 1909svdb graded AU-55 by anacs. He gave me the 2 cent and $600. Now I'm off to find an 1872 and I'll complete my set in raw XF (minus the 1873). I also bought a slabbed 1870 (XF-40) and cracked it out to match my set. I paid $50 but once I looked at it under my scope, I found it to be a DDO (FS#2-004.3) valued at $150 in XF. Needless to say its going back to get re- slabbed.
Coin collecting is an addiction.Eventually, you will have to specialise.I found trying to collect the whole world a bit too difficult,so I have been forced to sell off my non-British Commonwealth coins & banknotes. I am concentrating on British Commonwealth & doing an online project in the process. Aidan.
Did I forget to mention I am finding this hobby VERY ADDICTIVE? LOL. My poor budget needs tweeking. I am also finding I had been missing out on alot of info and fun before the coin books. I have never looked at my change the same since I started this. "I never noticed that" seems to be my latest mantra.
Change? What is that? They are simply coins that I don't need for my sets. I check and then pass them on to someone (usually a store) for the next collector to check out. But, I never have change, just coins that I don't need.
I have to agree!!! I pulled an Ebay auction for an 1878 7/8 VAM 33 in ANACS MS62 last year. I only paid about $60 for it. It was my first VAM 1878 7/8 (circa year 2000.). Even though the auction was going well, I pulled the auction after 3 days because I just coudn`t part with it. I emailed the high bidder and told him why I pulled the auction. He kind of understood . This coin was like a kid of mine. I have bought and sold many things. A lot of the things I sold were recent Mint issued items such as Gold and Silver Eagles, and Modern commemoratives. No emotional attachment. Go buy ones just like them tommorrow. No regrets. Sold some Currency (Good Price) but had regrets. Can`t exactly go buy ones just like them tommorrow. I know EXACTLY what you are saying............
