This is one of the many reason I love coin collecting, the hunt. I bought some dirty coins from a guy here that cleans out barns and such and thought I had scored but it turns out it’s a modern token. The 1800s date and Polk image had me excited. (Horrible pic I know, I’m working to improve that)

This is my first thread and I’m really enjoying this forum.

Do you have an image of the reverse?

I wish it didn’t have the discoloring.

It is either bronze or copper. Try soaking it in 100% virgin olive oil for a few days. Then gently use a toothpick to see if you can remove some of the corrosion.

Thanks for the information. I wonder if the 1981 in the serial number could be the year made as the links say mid 20th century. I enjoy the education even where there isn’t monetary value.
I will try that olive oil method as soon as I get some.
