Hi I work in a restaurant and last night while at work a co-worker dropped this dime on the floor and I picked it up, called her name but she did not hear me so then I went out into the restaurant to give it to her but she was busy at a table so I put it in my pocket and kind of forgot about it, and then as the night went on before I left I realized I still had the dime in my pocket so I looked at it and thought it looked different so I switched it out with a normal dime and gave my co-worker her dime back, but she laughed and said it's just a dime you could of just kept it lol. But it looks like a grease strike error it is 199 something, what do you all think?. I am coin collector but I am not one to know how to grade coins or tell what condition a coin is in. Thanks to who might know.
Nice find! Just as you hypothesized, you have a struck through grease error. However, being relatively common, they don’t carry much value.
Hi welcome to ct! As @Legomaster1 said it looks like a grease strike through. It is also a misaligned die strike (mad) and I believe the year looks like 1996. Still a neat find.
First, welcome to the neighborhood! Since it is Saturday morning, I'll have 3 eggs over easy, corned beef hash, hash browns, wheat toast and a big pot of coffee. Chris PS. Yes, it was caused by a grease-filled die.
