I can understand what the OP is saying and tend to agree with the post.
The issue though is there is market demand for the holder as shown in the past
I cant fault one of the top dogs from making the dollars on this. I myself can give a rats behind about the special holder, that's just me though.

I like the set and hope to get in and buy a few when they open for sale. 50/50 if i can get even one since the mints site is often buggy. Fast sure sell out I think.

My question here is: does NGC already have coins in hand like the picture above? Or is that just fancy photoshop manipulation

with the price of silver under $20 why is the set so expensive? what is the formula?

The formula is 'we can charge whatever we want 'cause folks will buy these'........ devil.gif

Good point about the price. So, there's an ounce or so of silver total, 10 for the charity, let's throw in 5 for the labor and fancy cardboard the set comes in. My guess is the set is at most 35 plus shipping. How much is the set? I don't think I want to know though

    $61.95

And I think you are being w-a-a-y conservative on your estimates.
A Silver Eagle Proof, at 1 ounce of specially handled silver, is $48.95. Throw in a $10 fee to support some commemoration program and that single coin minus two thirds of the handling costs during production would be $48.95.

And lets not forget the shipping costs that the US Mint is eating while giving a $4.95 global shipping costs regardless of how much is ordered.

Sure, it's an expensive set but it's their product and they can set their price based upon what they estimate it will cost. Not to mention the fact that profits from coins such as this actually go toward paying the Mints (and the branch mints) operating costs enabling the Treasury Department to pay money "into" the Federal Governments General Fund instead of pulling money out of" annual tax revenues.

In other words, the US Mint is the only profitable segment of the US Government through the sale of coins to the Federal Reserve Bank and to collectors such as us.

I'll order 2 sets (if I can) and see where the market goes. Maybe one set will pay for the other or at the minimum displace the cost of one?

How do they justify that!? I could understand if the US Mint was a private company.

Exactly. This is why I will wait until the hype dies down before I will pull the trigger on one of these.
