IMO The images are too small for any kind of accurate picture grading. And as Doug said, the 1921 Peace looks a bit wacky. I do not think I would have bid on that auction, given the ambiguity of the photos and the 1921 specimen. The [seller's] grades seem way outta whack to me too. I see the grades of these specimens being much, much less than what's written on those cardboard flips.
I don't think it's a modified 1924. The stem of the 4 [for a 1924] falls a bit more to the right to the bottom of the designer's initials below the bust. Unless, of course, the stem was filed off and a [replacement] "stem" was affixed more below the initials, as a 1921 exhibits. Check out the description. You sure those gals are really from Palitine IL? Sounds like moose and squirrel conspiracy.....
Actually I think it's possible. They are obviously Slavic. I seem to vaguely recall that there may be a lot of Slavic folks in Palitine, IL.
You're probably right. Just so comical to read that description. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0zCnpZmk20E&feature=related
I agree. The light color is some defect in the mylar 2x2. The coin does indeed look to me to be high relief and I believe it is genuine. Did you make a mistake? Maybe so, maybe not, but I don't think that the 21 is altered. The diagnostics of the neck appear to be correct to me for a 1921.
I scanned two of my peace dollars I had laying around and the 1923-P in my opinion is an MS, while on the other hand the 1926-S would grade fairly low. I circled key areas on the coin where I find the field to be blurry in these specific areas. I'm not sure if this is related to the scanner that was used or what? Obviously there is a clear difference between the scans of my coins and the scans of the purchased dollars. Mine being much clearer. Assuming that the coins have been blurred I would assume the 1934 would have the higher grade and the 1921 would grade AU *possible*. Even assuming these grades might be a big dramatic considering I'm yet to see the coins in hand.
If the 21 Peace Dollar is legit it's a great deal. Like you say, if it's a fake send it back and you are only out shipping costs. I hope to see some pics of the coins when you receive them.
Friendly FYI folks - there's a real easy site for pulling up images of common issues: http://www.coinpage.com/ I just type in the year in the search box provided, and whatever specimens they have that match that year come up.
you know ... i am not a coin grader or counterfeit detector ... but these look pretty good to my eye!
I think the 1921 has been cleaned, the 1903 indian is very nice in my opinion. The back seems to have some doubling in some areas unless its caused by the machine, im not familiar with these coins.
