And these are a few of the winners. You can read about it here. There were actually quite a few gems in this set, but these two are my favorite. First, a 1953-S with satiny luster and really only a couple of scattered marks. I grade it MS66+. Just a simply stunning coin. My pics don't do it justice. Second, and the most interesting coin of the bunch, is a 1954. Not only was this the only "big time" toner in the album, under a loupe the die cracks are just amazing. Such a late die state, the bridge of George's nose is almost completely gone. Yes, there is an unattractive splotch on his neck, but otherwise, a super nice coin. I grade it MS64 (not that grade matters much on this coin).
Love that 54! I'm not all that well versed with Washington's but can't remember seeing many with toning like that.
I just googled him. I actually write music for TV for a living but I'm not nearly as cool as that guy. That quarter is seriously awesome though. Seems like your album buy was a score as it is but if that 53-S grades high it could be a serious one! I'd be all over the '54 but I have a suspicion you'll be keeping it...
Love those, especially the color on that '54 - not to mention the die breaks! Sure would look good in my new toner Washington set Nice score and thanks for sharing.
1). Nothing super expensive. 2 repunched mintmarks, etc. But the variety coins were probably MS61's, I'd say. Nothing special, according to Cherrypickers. 2). Yes! Definitely going to NGC in a couple weeks.
